Senior Accountant Job Opening in Denver, Colorado - OBJECTIVE
Global Down Syndrome Foundation (Global) is seeking a Senior Accountant to fulfill the daily accounting and administrative tasks. Global is a dynamic, fast-paced, and quickly growing organization and is seeking a candidate who is capable, enthusiastic, comfortable with technology, and a great team player. This position works closely with Global?s department heads and Database team and reports to the Director of Finance.
GLOBAL OVERVIEW
Global is a public not for profit 501(c)3 providing funding that significantly improves the lives of people with Down syndrome through Research, Medical Care, Education and Advocacy. Global works every day to deliver on this mission with its three Affiliates:
Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children?s Hospital Colorado
Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome on the Anschutz Medical Campus
Rocky Mountain Alzheimer?s Disease Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus
Global?s key areas of work are:
Development: Implementing strategic initiatives, fundraising plans and friend-raising efforts
Advocacy: Including but not limited to government advocacy and general awareness
Communication, Public Relations & Marketing
Event Management: Year-round events and execution of Global?s major annual event ( Be Beautiful Be Yourself Fashion Show )
Community Outreach: Including but not limited to Global Membership programs, Health & Wellness Programs, and community surveys and market research
Global?s primary activity is in Colorado and the D.C. area. Future efforts include establishment of a world-class medical care center for adults with Down syndrome.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Senior Accountant will perform financial operations and accounting tasks utilizing Abila MIP Fund Accounting Software for the Global Down Syndrome Foundation as follows:
Accounts payable processing
Accounts receivable processing
Process bi-monthly payroll
Prepare journal entries
Post monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals
Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements
Research and correct account discrepancies
Ensure that accounting and reporting systems are in compliance with appropriate GAAP standards, ensure accuracy and transparency in the accounting functions within the organization, and ensure adherence to internal controls, approved financial policies, and donor restrictions
Assist Director of Finance in preparing monthly variance reports and financial statements
Assist with fieldwork for financial audits
Respond to ad hoc requests from department heads and other Global team members
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
5+ years of accounting experience
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or Finance
Demonstrated understanding of non-profit financial standards, GAAP, reporting procedures, business and administrative practices
Experience with multiple accounting software packages.
Experience with Abila MIP preferred
Strong skills with the Microsoft Office Suite
Commitment to the mission of the Global Down Syndrome Foundation
Strong integrity, discretion, high ethical standards and ability to maintain confidentiality
High degree of accuracy while still being able to work quickly and efficiently
Excellent work ethic and positive disposition
Ability to work efficiently and productively with minimal supervision
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to balance multiple demands, manage projects and prioritize tasks while continuing to show attention to detail and accuracy
Display sound judgment, relate well to the public and staff, have a professional demeanor and be well organized
STAFF AND REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reports to the Director of Finance.
HOURS
Mondays through Friday from 9:00am - 6:00pm, periodic work on evenings/weekends as required for programs/events.
COMPENSATION
This is an exempt position, requiring flexibility in order to meet deadlines and attend Global events. Salary is commensurate to experience and salary history.
