Early Head Start Health and Nutrition Consultant Job Opening in Evanston, Illinois - Summary: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Early Head Start Health & Nutrition consultant will be responsible for the coordination of health tasks for children in center based care at our Baby Toddler and Teen Baby Nurseries. The nurse will manage a caseload of 55 Early Head Start children. This is a part-time position, approximately 25 hours a week.
Organization: The Infant Welfare Society of Evanston is a 103-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to early childhood care for infants and toddlers as well as family support services that enable families to provide the stability and care that their children need. The services of the Infant Welfare Society of Evanston are focused on those children and families who are most at-risk including those who are living in poverty, teen parents, and families with children living with disabilities. We are an Equal Opportunity Infant Welfare Society of Evanston provides the following services:
Baby Toddler Nursery: Full-day child care for children 6 weeks through 5 years old for 70 children each day including Early Head Start and subsidized services and care.
Teen Baby Nursery: Full-day child care for children 6 weeks to 3 years old for 16 children each day who are parented by teenagers. Early Head Start and subsidized services and care.
Family Support Program: Family support services including prenatal groups, intensive home visiting programs, parent training and support, developmental screening and assessment, therapeutic intervention and group sessions
Essential Duties:
Oversight of health files and records in accordance with Head Start performance standards
Arrangement of necessary screenings for Early Head Start children (Ages 0-3) in accordance with EPSDT periodicity and Head Start Performance Standards.
Provision of annual relevant staff training: Infectious disease, medication administration, blood borne pathogens, etc.
Coordination with other content area specialists (Disabilities, Mental Health, Education, etc.) to provide appropriate support to children with medical needs
Partnership with area healthcare community members to ensure coordination and maintenance of services for children and families
Nutrition management: review and analysis of food menus, creation of special meal plans for children with dietary restrictions or needs, conducting nutrition assessments and providing nutrition education to parents and staff
Education and Experience
RN preferred; LPN, Bachelor's Degree with Related Health/Nutrition Experience accepted
One to three years of related experience in community health resources, health services, nursing and/or delivering services to birth to five year old children and low-income families
Working knowledge of Early Head Start/Head Start performance standards and requirements
Spanish speaking preferred
