Position Title: Information Technology Director
Reports To: School Directors
Department: Information Technology
Location: Chatfield School, 231 Lake Drive, Lapeer, MI 48446
Job Summary:
The Information Technology Director is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and execution of all IT functions at the school. This includes directing all IT operations to meet the school and state requirements as well as the support and maintenance of existing applications and development of new technical solutions. It includes planning and assisting with various applications and online assessments. As well as deployment and maintaining of all servers, computers, network, and mobile equipment.
Principle Responsibilities:
Deployment and maintenance of all networking, computer, and related technology equipment.
Directs and reports on operations in executing production tasks according to documented timeline and schedule that meets the needs of the school.
Participates on all hardware and software evaluations and maintains vendor contracts.
Performs liaison duties and provides support to other school departments such as pupil accounting, teaching staff, food service, etc.
Installs network (client and server) software on a variety of platforms for the purpose of upgrading and maintaining school WAN/LAN and telecommunications systems.
Administers systems and servers related to school WAN/LAN for the purpose of ensuring availability of services to authorized users (email systems, accounts, print queue, workstation ID, IP assignments, computer labs, classroom computers, security, anti-virus, spyware, etc).
Ensures the consistency, integrity, and maintainability of backups for the district?s data.
Maintains a secure network environment from and overseeing content filtering for network users.
Directs and monitors department personnel for the purpose of prioritizing project deadlines and ensuring optimal utilization of personnel.
Participates in a variety of planning and development activities, including school committees for the purpose of creating short and long-range plans.
Prepares written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Recommends equipment, supplies, materials for the purpose of acquiring required items and completing jobs efficiently.
Works with school directors to develop technology budget and purchasing.
Responsible for purchases and maintains technology equipment inventory school wide.
Researches trends, products, equipment, tests, etc. for the purpose of advancing technology and education in the school.
Trouble-shoot, diagnose, and repair hardware as needed.
Provides technology support to staff and students as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Experience in implementing effective and innovative software development methodologies
Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences including staff trainings using newly implemented or existing technologies.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and assist staff in usage of new or existing technologies
Analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies
Broad knowledge of data processing systems, concepts, and methodologies
Understanding of or the ability to learn requirements of the public education system as related to technology, state reporting, state testing systems, etc.
Experience in the Following Areas Preferred:
Active Directory services and server applications
Student Information Systems
Online assessments
Networking infrastructure in both WAN/LAN
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree in computer science or related field
Preferred experience within Informational Technology in an education setting
