Controls Engineer Job Opening in Oak Park, Michigan - My client is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer .
CANDIDATE MUST RESIDE WITHIN 50 MILES OF OAK PARK, MI
Salary - $80-95K plus overtime after 45 hours
Percent of Travel Required: 25%
Position Summary The Controls Engineer is responsible for controls engineering project requirements involving control panel design, PLC programming, instrumentation, applications and check out support and start-up assistance of all equipment in the product line.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Design of special electrical controls and systems utilizing AutoCAD.
Write or modify software applications for custom machines utilizing Allen-Bradley and Siemens products.
Generate itemized controls BOM for purchasing to release.
Responsibility for project budgets dealing with hardware and software engineering functions.
Communicate with customers, to review control specifications, HMI screens and drawings.
Assure customer runoff requirements are met.
Coordinates with the Manufacturing department to ensure electrical designs are cost effective and within the capability of manufacturing and subcontractors.
Determine project schedules, tasks % completed and tasks TBD.
Assist the Manufacturing department during the build or retool phase of new or special equipment.
Assist or perform Test Floor Engineering duties.
Write and program detailed system functional specifications based upon a proposal document and customer specifications.
Provide engineering support to quote new jobs, work with customers during design and start-up.
Perform electrical software work for new or special products as well as research and design of new control circuits.
May conduct studies for introduction of new equipment or improvement of existing equipment.
Performs and assist in the testing of prototype equipment.
Provide technical support (layouts, line-up, system design, cost estimates) to Sales department for preparation of proposals involving special instruments and controls.
Provide technical support to the Sales and Engineering departments on computerized balancing machines and instrumentation.
Maintain updated technical information files for special and new balancing systems. Keeps an updated listing with features and capabilities of all computer applications.
Emphasize the use of standard materials, parts and manufacturing processes.
Assist in the training of the customer personnel in the operation of equipment.
May assist in the building of control panels including the piping and wiring of machines.
Provide service on machines at the customer?s location as needed.
Complete work within given budget
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent with equivalent experience may be substituted.
3+ years of work experience in advanced system design preferably in a high technology manufacturing environment.
3+ years Controls design experience in the area of machine tools and/or test equipment
Proven programming skills using ladder logic for Allen Bradley and/or Siemens PLC?s, flow charting or other high level languages.
3+ years of experience with AutoCAD Eplan desirable.
Ability to design hydraulic, pneumatic, lube and coolant systems.
