Job description:
The Finance & Accounting Manager is a part of the central office of Purpose Built Schools Atlanta (PBSA), a start-up organization partnering with Atlanta Public Schools to turn around four of the district?s most challenged schools. Reporting to the Controller, the Finance & Accounting Manager is responsible for providing finance and accounting support to all schools in the PBSA cluster (Thomasville Heights Elementary School, Slater Elementary School, Price Middle School, and Carver High School ? opening in 2018). The Finance & Accounting Manager will work closely with the Controller to provide accurate and timely financial and accounting reporting to procurement support to leadership, staff, and external stakeholders.

The Finance & Accounting Manager will be located in the PBSA central office, which is located in a school, and will travel to the other school sites (within Atlanta), as needed.
Responsibilities include:
The Finance & Accounting Manager is responsible for providing a variety of financial support services to the PBSA central office and cluster of schools. The Finance & Accounting Manager will lead the implementation and manage the ongoing work of the procurement software, accounts payable, monthly reconciliation, posting data to accounting journal ledger. The Finance & Accounting Manager will work closely with the Controller to issue financial statements, oversee cash management and credit cards, and assemble data for external auditors.
Oversees and manages the organization?s procurement system. Ensures all workflows, preferred vendors, and frequently purchased items are accurate and updated as needed.
Reviews and provides input into the organization?s fiscal policies, procedures, and processes. Maintains secure and organized filing system for confidential financial documents.
Prepares journal entries and records transactions in the General Ledger Financial System according to GAAP and PBSA policies.
Provides technical accounting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) guidance and support.
Complete monthly reconciliations timely. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
Performs various accounting functions according to documented procedures to ensure month-end and year-end close processes are completed accurately and all reporting deadlines are met.
Leads all accounts payable activities, including managing invoicing process and online system. Handle all follow ups are required.
Prepares monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and merchant credit card reconciliations.
Records bi-weekly payroll, flexible spending account liability and payroll tax liabilities in the General Ledger, reconcile payroll expenses to Automated Data Processing (ADP) Reports.
Maintains monthly Title I reimbursement process, including follow-up with schools and Atlanta Public Schools.
Leads all Accounts Receivable processes, including issuing invoices, reimbursement requests, and manage collections.
Maintains Fixed Asset System, reconcile sub-system to General Ledger, place assets in service, calculate depreciation, conduct annual physical inventory, record retirements and disposals.
Other duties as reasonably assigned by the appropriate administrator.
Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting required.
Three or more years of Accounting and Finance management experience.
Work experience in education and/or non-profit 501(c)3 environment.
Self-starter with ability to perform within ambiguity and an entrepreneurial environment.
Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team leader.
Ability to maintain fiscal records, databases and confidential data.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications ? Outlook, Excel, Word.
Highly organized with ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.
An accessible, visible, and flexible style that inspires trust and confidence.
Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to self-prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
