Accounts Payable Associate Job Opening in Chicago, Illinois - Position Summary:
Responsible for processing full-cycle AP, preparing journal entries and account reconciliations for month-end close, maintaining sales certificate documentation and various other functions to support the accounting team.
Representative Duties:
Receive and process freight invoices, expense reports and miscellaneous payables according to schedule, run and mail weekly check runs, and maintain vendor file;
Responsible for timely monthly AP closing, assuring proper cut-off procedures, invoice accrual determination, communication with plant locations and report distribution;
Communicate with both internal and external customers to answer payment questions, and handle special requests regarding Accounts Payable, including requests from internal and external auditors;
Prepare and file 1099 tax forms annually;
Request W-9 forms from all new vendors and maintain master file of forms;
Assist with documentation of accounts payable policies and procedures;
Maintain sales certificates schedules for multiple states, research sales tax questions when necessary, and communicate to customer service changes in sales tax;
Assist in month-end close, prepare and post manual journal entries for AP accruals and various standard journal entries;
Run and distribute various monthly financial reports, including cost & trend reports;
Prepare accounts reconciliations and perform other related duties as assigned.

Associate degree/college degree with accounting coursework or comparable experience required
AS400, Oracle JDE, or similar ERP system experience desired
Typing 35 WPM and proficient in 10-key operations, Excel and Word experience
Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines with excellent organization and time management skills
Ability to work independently and willing to learn new skills and processes as needed
Good communication skills essential
