The customer program supports a highly dynamic Information Technology (IT) environment that offers rewarding opportunities to think outside the box in order to deliver innovative and sustainable network environments to our customers. This program is seeking to fill an immediate opportunity within its Sustainment and Maintenance Team for a system administrator with Linux, Windows, and basic networking experience. Londinium system administrators work both independently and as a member of an integrated product team supporting a wide variety of basic and complex computing and network configurations. The system administrator shall support the day-to-day operations of the Sponsor?s laboratory computer systems. This support will include the installation, configuration, maintenance, failure analysis and recovery, performance monitoring, data storage management, and information security management of laboratory computer systems. This position requires a blend of Linux, Windows and basic networking knowledge and experience in order to successfully configure and manage the heterogeneous computing environment supported by the Londinium program across two locations in the Washington Metropolitan Area. System administrators shall have demonstrable functional knowledge of local, distributed and clustered computing environments; to include cloud computing and virtualization environments.
Work Location: Split between Dulles, VA (3 days) and McLean, VA (2 days)Work Schedule: Monday ? Friday (core hours 9 AM ? 2 PM; program/team coverage hours 6 AM ? 5 PM)
Specific duties and responsibilities of the system administrator may include, but are not limited to:
Responding to inquiries concerning all aspects of computer and network operations
Creating and managing user/group accounts in both Active Directory (AD) and Network Information Service (NIS)
Installing, configuring, updating and troubleshooting Linux and Windows desktop and server (physical and virtual) instances
Installing, configuring, updating and removing system and application software
Installing, configuring, updating and removing system hardware (servers, workstations, monitors, printers, plotters, scanners, transceivers, network interface cards, network physical links) * Configuring NFS, NIS, SAMBA, etc. remote hosting/sharing protocols
Documenting procedures and performing system and file backup and recovery
Creating shell scripts to automate system administration functions * Configuring and troubleshooting point-to-point connections for secure computing and networking environments
Documenting standard operating procedures and how-to articles related to sustainment and maintenance activities, lessons learned and best practices
Monitoring and allocating system resources (CPU, memory, and storage space)
Auditing system log files, to include compliance audits
Diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware and software problems; and documenting fault resolution steps
Documenting hardware and software configurations, change and maintenance logs, as well as backup history details
Implementing up-to-date system policies and procedures
Configuring ad-hoc subnets, virtual local area networks (VLANs) and virtual private networks (VPNs)
Minimum Qualifications:
Seven (7) years or more demonstrated experience with Linux operating systems (Red Hat & CentOS)
Two (2) or more years of demonstrated experience with Windows operating systems (Windows 7, 8, 10 for desktops and Server 2008, 2012 and newer server platforms preferred)
Demonstrated experience working with Linux archives (e.g. tar, gz, gzip)
Demonstrated experience with Linux update repositories (e.g. yum, apt-get) * Bachelor?s Degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent experience. Equivalent military training and experience in an information technology field is acceptable.
Five (5) years of intelligence community relevant work experience, including three (3) or more years of specialized, relevant technical experience in the general areas of systems/network operation center supportDesired Skills/Experience:
Shell scripting in Linux environments
Intermediate network experience (such as subnet, VLAN and VPN configuration)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Visio)
Experience working in an ad-hoc environment in which requirements vary from day-to-day
Demonstrated experience authoring standard operating procedures
Demonstrated experience working in a complex sustainment and maintenance environment comprised of heterogeneous information systems and technologies
Knowledge of ICD-503 standards and requirements for system accreditation
Knowledge of storage area network (NAS) and direct attached storage (DAS) configuration and provisioning
