Senior Accountant/Political Job Opening in Washington, District of columbia - The candidate will work under the general supervision of the Director of Accounting in collaboration with the political director to be responsible for accurate and timely filing of FEC, IRS and other required political disclosures. This role is responsible for supporting the coding of transactions for political reporting and will be active in implementing cross-departmental policies that support the Union?s goals by supporting a highly effective financial and political operation. The candidate will assist senior management with the annual budget process along with the reporting and monitoring of all political contributions and campaign
Duties:
Ensure the timely and accurate maintenance of political transactions within multiple political funds;
Support the development of the campaign budget and tracking of political revenue and expenditures;
Analyze and reconcile accounts and projects related to AFT political activity, including the federal PAC;
Create and code funds transfers related to PAC and independent expenditure activity;
Coordinate functions between Accounting, Political, Legal departments and other teams to ensure cohesiveness, accuracy and support across the organization for the political accounting and reporting functions;
Responsible for data migration between systems and the accurate reporting of all political funds;
Responsible for communication with consultants for support;
Access multiple databases and obtain data to support reporting;
Perform research regarding political activity and transactions;
Prepare and submit timely FEC reports, IRS filings, federal and state independent expenditure reports, quarterly PAC and other political account reports using current GP accounting system and FEC systems;
Prepare and execute transactions to conform to GAAP, AFT policies, IRS regulations, FEC regulations and DOL requirements;
Other duties as assigned.
Skills Required:
Must have a CPA or a B.S. /B.A. in accounting, finance or business and be familiar with applicable tax laws and other governmental regulations;
Familiarity with unions or non-profit associations is highly desirable;
Knowledge of US GAAP and DC laws and regulations highly desirable;
Knowledge of IRS and FEC regulations in relation to PACs and other political accounts is highly desirable;
Familiarity with standard accounting software is essential; experience with GP Dynamics is beneficial;
Advanced skill level with Microsoft Office software.
Excellent mathematical aptitude and analytical skills with attention to detail;
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage priorities and projects;
Excellent interpersonal skills as well as verbal and written communication skills;
Professional and collegial work style with ability to work collaboratively;
Able to maintain a high-level of confidentiality and discretion.
