FT Residential Counselor Job Opening in Paramus, New jersey - TITLE: RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR
SALARY RANGE: $28-31,000 annually plus medical and dental after 3 months
Full-Time includes occasional weekend hours
SUPERVISED BY: HOUSING DIRECTOR
Mandatory QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a human service field or a combination of college education and work experience equaling four years in mental health/residential services. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are important. Good people skills are a must. Organization will provide certification in CPR and First Aid and overall training. Must possess a valid, clean Driver's License and have own car.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Residential Counselor is responsible for assisting in the coordination of residential services and providing direct care to residents. In addition, this position is responsible for providing a range of residential counseling and skills training services, tracking and reporting on resident progress toward goals and providing peer leadership. One weekend day is required with a minimum of four hours. Some flexibility in hours is possible to accommodate individual needs or responsibilities. Understanding that our clients are real people and caring about their welfare is crucial to the supportive and encouraging environment we have created.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform functional assessments of residents to determine when help is needed;
Assist clients with the full complement of supportive services i.e. activities of daily living; coordination of healthcare and mental health services, assistance with securing entitlements and benefits, and socialization and recreational activities.
Identify unmet needs and work with the Housing Director on program development and/or interagency collaborations to meet those needs.
Connect individuals with needed and available community resources.
Assist with facility management and oversight, including upkeep and maintenance needs of the houses.
Provide counseling and crisis intervention services in consultation with the Housing Director;
Develop treatment plans for clients and do weekly service plan notes.
Maintain confidentiality in all client issues and statuses.
Maintain client records. Documentation must be maintained each week, no exceptions.
Other duties as assigned by the agency administrators.
