Reports to: Executive Director & Treasurer
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 40 hours/week
Classification: Full Time, Exempt Employee

Job Overview: Participate as part of the strategic support team managing a variety of ongoing financial responsibilities and supporting special projects that pertain to many areas of synagogue life.
Primary Functions: Functions include standard bookkeeping duties for accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and congregational account maintenance, billing, and collections. Responsible for maintaining financial records for congregational members, for producing and reviewing monthly financial statements, and for assisting in the development of the congregation?s annual budget. This position also encompasses other support functions for the congregation that may be outside the usual scope of office duties.

You may not share any personal information about Temple members with any other member or employee, except when doing so fulfills your employee responsibilities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The bookkeeper is an individual who represents the Congregation when interacting with members, visitors, and business contacts. The functions listed below are meant to convey some, but not all activities that one would perform in this position. The nature of our team effort means that the duties and responsibilities will evolve and change over time.
Finance
Maintains financial records for all of the Temple?s members
Prepares confidential payroll entry, posting and distribution
Maintains accurate paid time off accrual and use records
Prepares monthly reports for the Executive Director, congregational Treasurer, and Temple Board of Trustees
Posts all receipts and payments for all Temple accounts
Reconciles the various Temple accounts/funds monthly
Reviews all payables and prepares weekly payments for review and signature
Responsible for preparing bank deposits at least twice a week
Prepares financial ad hoc reports for various committees and upon request
Membership Data Management
Maintains the financial aspects of the membership database, with the assistance of Administrative Staff
Creates membership statements and invoices electronically for monthly distribution.
Assists the congregational Financial Secretary in handling collections and suspensions. Records dues adjustments, interacting with congregational Financial Secretary and Executive Director as needed
Prepares Monthly membership report for the Executive Director and Financial Secretary
Interacts with congregants to resolve financial issues and questions
General Office
Provides database management
Attends regular staff meetings
Responds to telephone & email inquiries
Helps maintain a neat appearance in the office and at his/her individual work area
Provides additional support duties as assigned/needed
Qualifications
7 Years? bookkeeping experience, Bachelor?s degree in accounting plus 5 years of bookkeeping experience, or Master?s degree in accounting plus 3 years of bookkeeping experience.
Fund Accounting experience or knowledge helpful.
Proficiency in QuickBooks, MS word and excel.
Ability to learn third party, industry specific, software used for receivables and reports.
Must be comfortable with journal entries
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
Strong organizational & time management skills and very detail oriented.
Ability to work under close supervision as well as the ability to work independently.
Adaptable in a working environment where the staff works together as part of a team effort.
