The Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center (SYJCC) is a not-for-profit organization with a $7.5M budget that provides a wide range of family, recreational, educational, health and wellness and other community based services. Position
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Controller will be a strategic partner and member of the Executive Team. The successful candidate will be a hands-on, , and participative manager who can lead and develop a small internal team supporting the following areas: Finance, Business Planning and Budgeting, and Human Resources. The Controller will play a critical role partnering with the senior leadership team in the strategic decision making process.
The Controller will work directly with the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board of Directors and report to the Board of Directors on a regular basis.
Responsibilities
Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the Board of Directors.
Coordinate the annual audit process.
Oversee the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; keep senior management and Board of Directors updated on the organization?s financial status.
Manage cash flow and forecasting, Payroll, A/R and A/P functions.
Update and implement business policies and accounting practices.
With other members of the Executive Team, further develop human resources and administration, enhancing professional development, compensation and benefits, performance evaluation, training, and recruiting; maintain personnel files and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
With the Executive Director, negotiate terms with third parties and vendors including but not limited to health insurance and other benefits, technology services, etc.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree required. Masters Degree and/or CPA license preferred.
8-10 years of professional finance experience with a minimum of 3 years at a senior (Controller) level. Experience working in a non-profit, human services or health care setting a plus.
Experience developing detailed financial data, content and relevant reporting.
Audit coordination for either a division or significant program area.
Ability to translate financial concepts, and effectively collaborate with Board members and programmatic and fundraising colleagues.
Technologically savvy with experience managing relationships with software vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software. SYJCC currently uses Sage 100.
Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Multi-tasker with the ability to wear many hats in a diversified environment.
