Top Finance/Accounting Position Job Opening in Portland, Maine - Ransom Environmental Consulting is looking for a Controller who shares their commitment to service, technical competency and professionalism to join their is the top finance/accounting position and reports directly to the President.
Ransom Consulting is a multi-state environmental consulting and engineering firm that has been successful since its founding in 1988 by going 'above and beyond' for its clients. Ransom recognizes that commitment to service, technical competency, and a professional team distinguish them from the competition.
In addition to managing sound accounting processes and reporting for a multi-state consulting practice, Ransom is looking for a change leader who will work collaboratively with the team to improve processes, focusing on efficiencies and project profitability.
The position oversees 3 accounting staff (located in MA and NH) and the HR Business Partner (located in ME).
Duties will include:
Prepare all financial reporting, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
Lead budget process to ensure effective tools for forecasting and managing business income and expense.
Responsible for cash management including cash flow projections, accounts receivable, accounts payable and collections.
Manage the year-end audit process as well as ensure timely filing and legal compliance with State and Federal regulations.
Secure commercial insurance to ensure appropriate, cost-effective coverage and risk management.
Partner with HR and benefits broker to ensure an attractive, cost-effective employee benefits program that will attract and retain employees.
Develop accounting policies and processes that support both accounting staff needs as well as internal and external customer processes.
Qualified candidates will have:
BS Degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
7+ years experience in accounting in a business setting.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills to meet multiple, changing deadlines.
Strong leadership skills to manage staff and collaborate in managing change in the company.
Experience working ERP software and payroll processing software.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) and advanced skills in Excel.
Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities.
Ability to effectively prioritize work to meet deadlines.
Strong customer focus.
Excellent communication skills to work with key internal and external colleagues.
Ability to work at a strategic, analytical level while also handling day-to-day entries and reporting.
Knowledge of Federal and State tax and payroll laws and regulations (ME, NH, MA, RI, NJ).
Experience setting up and improving accounting process controls.
