IT Loss Control Specialist Job Opening in Des Moines, Iowa - The Information Technology Loss Control Specialist provides system evaluations and consultative services for local government entities. Conducts on-site evaluations, internal control risk assessments, and related consultations. Supports the Pool?s overall risk management function through speaking engagements at conferences and developing key relationships.
Essential Job Requirements
Confirms systems and hardware inventory aligns with schedule provided to the Pool
Identifies and quantifies any new hardware or infrastructure or any such items otherwise missing from the inventory schedule provided to the Pool
Performs general and application control reviews for simple to complex computer information systems
Performs information control reviews to include communication controls, backup and disaster recovery, and system maintenance
Conducts on-site system evaluations, assesses system, application and data security controls
Recommends security and service plans to control source of risk, loss, and/or costs
Consults with and advises underwriting, marketing, agents and claims regarding system evaluation results and trends
Follows up on recommendations made and action or corrective action taken
Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems
Provides expert technical support to loss control and underwriting by advising them about resources available, legislation and applicable regulations, technology, industry trends and effective methods to reduce risk, improve customer satisfaction
Collaborates with management in developing IT related loss control policies, procedures and resources
Reports to Loss Control Field Manager and coordinates activities with loss control dept., marketing and local agents as necessary
Required Skills
Essential Job Requirements
Knowledge of current systems and technological developments/trends used by government entities
Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding the protection and retention of information
Excellent communication and writing skills
Ability to interact positively with clients, coworkers, business partners and Pool Board of Directors
Strong presentation skills
Ability to properly prioritize job duties
Ability to travel regularly within state with some interstate travel likely
Other duties as assigned
Required Experience
Qualifications
BS / BA degree or equivalent work experience
Advanced technological related education preferred
Minimum of 5 years technology related experience with at least 2 years systems auditing or consulting experience
Supervisory and leadership experience a plus
Professional designations a plus
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations and standards governing all aspects of the utilization of computer systems
Experience in risk assessment, analysis, solutions management and progress measurement
Ability to evaluate and review a range of mainframe, PC and applications computer systems
Ability to perform control reviews on systems development, operation, programming, control and security procedures and standards
Ability to review system backup, disaster recovery and maintenance procedures
Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports
Ability to communicate with and understand the requirements of professional staff in area of specialty
Ability to create, compose and edit written materials
Strong interpersonal, writing and other communication skills
