Quality Engineering- 5+ years Production Process with QC QA Job Opening in Vale, Oregon - PURPOSE OF JOB
The Quality Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the coordination and direction of the Quality Control Program. The Quality Manager is a key member of the Site Leadership Team and is responsible for determining product conformity to specifications and regulatory requirements. Including (1) directing activities for QA, (2) auditing internal/external facilities and quality programs, (3) process customer complaints, (4) working directly with plant production to optimize processes that affect quality, (5) supporting ISO quality, and (6) supporting safety and regulatory programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support ISO quality system to ensure that our records, procedures, and processes are maintained to ensure re-certification and compliance.
Auditing Procedures: Conducts series of audits throughout the production, packaging, material handling, and shipping processes. Inspect or authorize the inspection of vendor facilities and their control practices.
Work with corporate quality to ensure that the plant follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Defense Programs, management of change (MOC), & Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements for the plant.
QA & QC Lab Operations: Manage all function of the plant labs including raw material, in process and finished goods testing. Supply support and direction to lab technicians to ensure that their skills and abilities support the production and shipment of products that meet our quality specifications.
Support operations by further developing in-process testing to minimize the production of off-spec material.
Monitor equipment, sampling, and testing procedures to ensure that data is being accurately captured and reported. Familiarity with instrumentation calibration and weights & measures process for commerce. Ensure test equipment meets the needs of customers, regulations, and specifications. Maintain and approve test procedures.
Analytical Materials Testing: Performs a variety of testing for materials using various testing tools and methods (e.g. MIP, AA, PSD, LOI, % moisture).
Support Customer Complaint process with and timely formal responses following CAPA processes. Efforts require meeting with sales representatives, conducting root cause analysis, and follow-up with secondary lab tests. Willingness to make personal visits to customer sites to maintain good relationships and provide assistance as needed.
Project Management: Manage budgets and track project to the fulfillment of site goals.
Cost Management: Coordinates efforts and recommends procedures to maximize cost per ton capabilities, and control laboratory costs. Prepares budget for plant QA operations.
First Pass Quality: Demonstrates leadership in first pass quality to minimize waste and maximize plant efficiency. This includes training, process auditing and recommendations to management on best practices.
Determine Product Disposition: work with production, shipping, finance, and QC techs for timely evaluations and determination of conformance; and work with Data Management Systems for records.
Process Control: Applies statistical techniques for analyzing data to eliminate process variation. Familiarity with statistical software, such as Minitab is a plus.
Insure that the QC lab has the necessary equipment to support testing for the markets for which EP products are sold.
Interact with sales & marketing to determine new product specifications, or to review sales of products into new markets; including review of specifications and control parameters formulated by Research and Development.
Complete Safety Compliance Audits, Finished Goods Inspection Audits, and Area Audits as required.
Insure adequate labor and equipment to test pre-production, stockpile, & exploratory drill-hole samples (i.e. scheduling & planning).
Fulfill employee training and ensure maintenance of QMS training records
Acts as resource and champion for department continuous improvement activities (suggestion programs, 5S, Kaizen, problem solving, etc.); manage employee involvement in continuous improvement activities.
Staffing - Oversee the quality department?s staffing function with support from Human Resources; including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Employee Relations - Support supervisors and encourage collaboration among the team. Support a work environment that provides leadership, coaching, and motivates personnel. Promote open communications throughout the department and with other work groups. Engage in professional interactions with peers and senior managers. Establish and maintain robust relationships based on trust, not being afraid of difficult discussions, proactively solving conflicts if needed and leading required changes.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (if applicable or N/A)
The Quality Manager has responsibility for a staff of sixteen or more employees (QC Lab & Dry Lab technicians); including the Lab Tech 1, Lab Tech 2, and Lab Tech 3.
QUALIFICATIONS / COMPETENCIES
Education / Certifications:
Bachelor?s degree in engineering (mechanical, mining, or chemical preferred), science, or equivalent experience.
Job Skills:
Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access, ERP applications, and statistical analysis software (Mini-Tab preferred).
Knowledge of quality systems equipment and plant operations.
Excellent organizational skills.
Exceptional technical writing.
Exceptional verbal and written communication.
Measurement System Analysis & Gauge R&R experience a plus.
Lab experience preferred
Ability:
To learn and understand EP?s quality testing tools and methods (e.g. Screen Tests, AA, PSD tests, LOI, % moisture).
To work with individuals within all levels of the organization.
