Assistant Controller Job Opening in Austin, Texas - TMLT is seeking an assistant controller. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure financial results are GAAP and statutory compliant, appropriate internal controls are maintained, and all financial reporting deadlines are met.
As an assistant controller you will focus on the following duties:
Participates in and supervises month?end close activities and general accounting responsibilities for specific entities.
Manages financial compliance reporting for multiple entities. Keeps current on regulatory procedures and filings for multiple states and types of entities.
Supervises and completes reinsurance accounting for multiple entities.
Participates in audits for insurance company financial statements for outside regulatory authorities and external auditors. Prepares and reviews audit work papers for internal and external auditors.
Supervises and prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements prepared on the STAT & GAAP bases.
Supervises and creates statutory and GAAP related financial information and support as required, including the Annual Statement, Insurance Expense Exhibit, annual Risk Based Capital reporting, and participates in Schedule P reporting and analysis.
Participates in the creation and implementation of internal controls, monitoring of accounting processes, review of journal entries, review of financial statements and review of reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
Develops and maintains thorough knowledge and understanding of insurance industry, accounting policies, financial systems, transaction processes, internal controls and chart of accounts.
Prepares and posts journal entries for more complex accounting areas with explanation and description of accounting. Prepares and/or reviews account analyses and monthly analytical review of balance sheets and income statements.
Demonstrates a commitment to the process for continuous improvement and is open and responsive to change.
Demonstrates experience and proficiency in applying accounting principles/theories and concepts.
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of GAAP and STAT accounting, regulatory compliance and accounting standards.
Strong experience in supervising accounting staff in the preparation, review and analysis of financial statements and other financial information.
Must have strong accounting and analytical skills, and technical ability in financial information
Knowledge of Property & Casualty insurance industry, Medical Professional Liability a plus.
Strong knowledge of reinsurance accounting preferred.
Bachelors in accounting, CPA preferred.
Five to ten years of accounting experience with management, budgeting, audit, consolidations, and financial modeling experience.
