Our corporate offices and distribution center is located in rural Kennett Square, PA (Southern Chester County) just a few miles from Longwood Gardens. We have associates that commute daily from Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland.
We currently have a career opportunity for a General Ledger Staff Accountant. The General Ledger Accountant will perform responsibilities relating to the closing process to ensure financial statements are properly recorded and presented on a monthly basis. The General Ledger Accountant will also be responsible for analyzing, reconciling, reviewing and providing documentation on financial statements. Reporting to the General Ledger Accounting Supervisor, this role interacts with both internal and external teams, which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written communications.
Ability to lift and control boxes, reports, files and other office material weighing up to approximately 25 lbs.
Ability to use a personal computer, telephone, and other office equipment including copy machine, fax machine, and projector.
Ability to sit at a computer for the majority of the work time and stand for periods doing project work.
Ability to work under stress and to perform successfully in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making .
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor?s degree in Accounting required
Minimum of 3 years related accounting/general ledger experience required; public accounting experience preferred.
Strong knowledge, understanding, and ability to articulate auditing, accounting, and tax concepts.
Working knowledge of US GAAP.
Experience in Retail and Lease accounting preferred.
Experience in a Sarbanes-Oxley compliant environment a plus.
Advanced knowledge of Excel and general computer skills.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem solving skills.
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external agencies to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving and results.
Ability to meet assigned and tight deadlines.
Ability to perform several tasks concurrently.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all tasks associated with the general ledger (i.e. creating journal entries, executing closing entries, etc.)
Perform detailed analysis and reporting to book major accruals and adjustments Perform general account reconciliations.
Review and maintain rent schedules, NNN reconciliations and associated lease management records.
Assist in financial statement preparation for Monthly, Quarter and Year-End reporting.
Maintain documentation to support the audit process.
Coordinate with various departments throughout the Company, as needed, to ensure correctness and proper assignment of amounts in GL accounts.
Prepare and review balance sheet account reconciliations.
Maintain specific supporting schedules for established accruals.
Responsible for compliance with company policies and procedures (i.e. travel).
Work with Accounting department to ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting results.
Assist in preparation of financial reports to management and third parties.
Complete month/year end closes and financial statements.
Maintain Journal Entries, Accruals, and General Ledger Accounting monitoring accounts for discrepancies.
Review Accounts Payable check runs.
Prepare consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system.
Prepare bank and month account reconciliations.
Handle month-end close, cash reconciliation, sales and use tax and other required filings.
Support the Accounting department in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, financial reporting and analysis, and other responsibilities as required.
Respond to various audit requests related to designated areas of responsibility.
Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
