Charles Wright Academy is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts. Founded in 1957, the school enrolls 680 students in grades junior kindergarten through twelve. We are located in a suburban neighborhood southwest of Tacoma, approximately one mile from Puget Sound and within the shadow of Mt. Rainier.

Summary:
This position is responsible for timely and accurate semi-monthly payroll production using Paylocity payroll software, maintaining and updating employee payroll files and data by regularly interfacing with human resources manager, and researching payroll related issues. The PR/HR Specialist is responsible for compliance with state and federal regulations and tax reporting to outside agencies. In addition, support human resources manager with administration of various benefit plans, audit preparation and reporting needs as well as customer service.
Responsibilities:
Production of Payroll
Maintain over 2x employee payroll files and update employee data (earnings, income tax withholdings per Form W-4s, deductions, benefits, worker compensation rates, leave information, etc.) by working closely with human resources manager to ensure correct payroll amount.
Maintain and update direct deposit information.
Review and input hours worked and leave time. Verify accuracy of payroll information.
Respond accurately and timely to all notices of garnishments, tax levies, and wage assignment; compute deductions from employees? pay mandated by court orders. Remit payments to appropriate agencies. Update garnishment report on a semi-monthly basis.
Set up, maintain, and remit employee and employer contributions to the 403(b) plan with information from Paylocity payroll system and human resources department. Stay current on changes to qualified retirement plan limits for a plan year.
Verify payroll after processing to ensure accuracy and make any necessary corrections.
Ensure timely filing of personnel records (i.e. W-4, EAN, correspondence)
Provide continued training to payroll back up personnel to enable them to process an entire payroll at least once a quarter.
Posting to General Ledger and Account Reconciliation
Verify and process journal vouchers created by payroll module.
Reconcile employee benefit providers? billings to respective general ledger accounts on a monthly basis; submit provider billings for payment; prepares journal vouchers as necessary.
Reporting
Write reports and export data from payroll system for various reporting assignments, including L&I, retirement contributions, benefit calculations, etc. Ability to format data in excel and analyze information is critical.
Generate reports necessary to complete annual welfare census, retirement audit and general audit as well as annual INDEX/DASAL surveys.
Human Resources
Assist with confidential annual contract/wage letter creation and review, including estimates of total compensation.
Input of new salaries into life insurance carrier?s portal.
Serve as HR?s backup for reconciling semi-monthly eligibility & deduction report.
Run hours worked reports for retirement eligibility.
Assist human resources personnel in responding to employment security issues and financial institution employee verification.
Other Assignments
Respond promptly to employee questions concerning all PR/HR related matters with a high level of customer service.
Assist Human Resources in resolving issues between payroll and personnel policies and procedures.
Perform research on payroll related matters as needed.
Maintain current knowledge of rules, regulations, legislation, technology, and procedures governing payroll; learn new skills as needed.
Perform all other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Knowledge of tax law effects of payroll.
Knowledge of automated payroll system.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of all facets of payroll, including employee benefits terminology, rules, regulations and procedures.
Ability to work effectively and accurately under narrow time limitations with multiple priorities.
Ability to organize facts and present them in a clear, concise, and logical manner, both
verbally and in written form.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree in accounting.
Five years of progressive experience in payroll and accounting in a high-volume, complex environment; from timesheet review and input through general ledger account reconciliation. of quarterly reports and W2 preparation.
Thorough and hands-on knowledge of payroll benefits, taxes, and insurance.
Technically competent in utilizing accounting, word processing, and spreadsheet software. Minimum of intermediate Excel skill is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Payroll Professional.
Education, certification and/or experience in human resources field.
Experience working in schools and/or school districts.
Experience in Paylocity and MIP software.
