COMPETENCY BASED JOB DESCRIPTION
Position: Software Engineer
Discipline: Development
Reports To: Manager/Team Lead
Position Summary
This position will work with operating unit subject matter experts and business analysts; design, develop an approach for integrations, estimate integration effort, produce design documents, development, unit testing and support for a web-based claim application for various operating units of the corporation.
Qualifications/ Key Accountabilities:
Demonstrates the capability to resolve routine problems within a system or process
Design, develop, unit test Guidewire ClaimCenter Integration solutions
Responsible for designing and implementing integration points between external and ClaimCenter
Configuring or modifying screen layouts; may include creation of new screens, in XML files
Writing business rules and other business logic in GOSU, PCF
Programming in Java/J2EE, spring, hibernate, web services, MQ, Enterprise Java Bean (EJB), SQL
Can modify existing functionality or provide improvements with limited direction
Web and application server development; i.e. Web Sphere, Tomcat or Web Logic
Demonstrates solid development processes including code review, documentation, unit testing and the ability to debug software issues
Work independently on multiple projects while meeting the timely needs of the customer
May provide rotating on-call support of production systems
Travel for this position is approximately 5-10%
Minimum Qualifications () :
5+ years development experience of JAVA/J2EE, spring, hibernate, web services & SQL
Must have demonstrated the capability of meeting the key accountabilities, or have the ability to learn/perform them.
Software Development Life Cycle experience
Ability to thrive and produce results with little or no supervision in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
Excellent communication skills with ability to interact seamlessly at all levels with both technical and business stakeholders
Strong customer service focus and sense of urgency
Ability to quickly adapt and learn new technologies and systems
Ability to work well in a team environment
Superior problem solving and analytical skills
Experience with Message Broker (ESB), preferred
Experience with design patterns, specifically as they relate to systems integration
Knowledge of insurance systems; claims preferred, Guidewire ClaimCenter desired
Experience with Scrum or other Agile development methodologies
Experience in the Property & Casualty Insurance industry
Knowledge of ANT, Maven
Knowledge of Atlassian Suite ? Jira, Confluence, GIT, Stash, Bamboo, etc. preferred
Bachelor?s degree with emphasis in related field or equivalent experience.
