Linux Administrator Job Opening in Mobile, Alabama - Global Tel*Link (GTL) is seeking a Linux Administrator to join the Applications Support Team located in Mobile, AL. The individual will be required to be a critical thinker, highly-motivated, self-starter to autonomously perform complex installations, facilitate trouble-shooting, problem-solve and fix-management for a suite of integrated applications. The environment on occasion may be high-pressure with time-critical deadlines, but offers challenging work and continuous opportunity to master new technical skills.
Summary: The primary job function will be working with a team of Engineers on a variety of projects as it relates to the installation of proprietary and third-party applications in addition to servicing, training, etc. This critical role is required to effectively and promptly plan and document simple to complex implementation plans from software release notes, meetings and other communication methods. The Linux Administrator will follow best business standards and procedures performing flawless installs and to maximize system uptime, performance and maintainability.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday with some flexibility required. In addition, the role requires application support for a 24/7 - one (1) week on-call rotation schedule every 6 to 8 weeks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Works with development team members and other OST team members to plan and execute software implementation tasks for highly dynamic system.
Perform the necessary duties in production environments that runs on Microsoft Windows, Unix, Linux, MSSQL Server, Oracle and MySQL, Apache and JBoss (Wildfly).
Writes implementation plans and other documentation that is professional and grammatically correct.
Troubleshoot production issues
Work a variety of interesting projects across a mix of leading edge technologies
Solves complex issues in high-pressure, time-critical situations gracefully and efficiently.
Creates and executes SQL statements, possibly involving multiple tables.
Conducts operational activities such as application monitoring, production support, application troubleshooting and break-fix tasks.
Works with DBAs in SQL programming, data fixes, consultation and technical guidance with production databases, to include basic script writing, coding and queries.
Understands hardware/software and networking configurations as they pertain to application performance, impact and high availability.
Understands business concepts, business needs and customer?s needs performing with a sense of urgency in situations where appropriate such as revenue loss and customer-impacting events.
Works with team members and internal customers to solve production issues.
Occasionally assists the Application Support team engineers with production support issues.
Participates in the one week 24/7 on-call production support rotation.
May occasionally work at the office during non-business and/or late-night hours.
Can lead or facilitate projects with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Operates independently and thinks critically, sometimes without direct or immediate supervision.
Qualifications :
Bachelor?s Degree from a four-year college or university; five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceA minimum of 3 years of experience as a Unix/Linux Administrator, DevOps Engineer, Software Engineer, or comparable role
A minimum of 3 years of experience with web servers, application servers and databases specific to: Microsoft Windows, Unix/Linux, MSSQL Server, Oracle and MySQL, Apache, JBoss (Wildfly), and IIS
Hands on knowledge of Operating Systems, specifically Unix/Linux
Strong ability to write SQL queries and basic coding and scripting; conducting data fixes
Outstanding presentation and communication skills required; both written and verbal, with the ability to discuss and present technology in simple, every day terms
Ability to apply logic to trouble-shoot, correct and implement computer programs and databases
Ability to identify possible specific business requirements based on general conversations with business unit staff
Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects at a time
On-call shift requires an iPhone or Android Smartphone (a monthly cell phone allowance is included). On-call work can be done remotely.
