Part Time Market Assistant Job Opening in New Orleans, Louisiana - Description
This part-time staff member will assist in the coordination and operation of weekly farmers markets, on-site and in the office. The MA?s main work is to prepare for market, set-up and breakdown the market, staff the welcome booth, handle incentive programs at market and all market token sales, and complete the market financial close-out following the market. The MA reports directly to the Market Manager.
The MA is responsible for:
Serving as the cashier for the market token system by processing credit cards, debit cards, SNAP cards and checks in exchange for market tokens
Administering social benefit currencies programs (FMNP, SNAP, Marketeers, FMRx, WIC) and other incentive programs at the market
Preparing and closing out the market token banks by completing the market financial close-out tally, processing credit card settlements and recording other inventory counts
Assist in managing all Market Umbrella databases; including Marketers club, senior centers, community centers and schools
Assisting with market preparation and the physical market set-up and breakdown
Assisting with events and other market programs as needed
Assist with the mapping of market, collection of rent, vendor fees and paperwork when needed
Issue Marketeer Club birthday cards to members monthly
Help plan and execute kids activities at market as needed
All issues that reduce the effectiveness of fulfilling this position must be communicated to the Market Manager as soon as issues are known.
Market Day Responsibilities:
Staff welcome tent; this may include but is not limited to setting up and providing beverage service, market merchandise sales, fielding shopper and vendor questions
Process all credit cards, debit cards, SNAP cards and checks in exchange for market tokens
Assist in the physical market set-up, break-down, and operations (rain or shine)
Procure ice, making and replenishing coffee and tea, setting up and breaking down tents, tables and signage
Administering market community outreach programs and social benefit currencies programs (FMNP, SNAP, Kids) and other incentive programs at the market
Help the Market Manager and other Market Umbrella staff in event work or community outreach work as needed
Fill in for other market staff as needed
Office Day Responsibilities
Complete market token counts and market financial close-out reports, processing credit card settlements, recording cash sales, counting all rent receivables and recording other inventory counts
Assist in maintaining market databases including marketers club, senior centers, community centers and schools
Prepare market supplies (prepping beverages, market tokens, merchandise, signage and other supplies required for market events)
Accepting and logging market vendor call-ins or attendance notifications
Assisting staff with community outreach efforts; this may include but is not limited to setting out and picking up yard signs, flyering, dropping off promotional materials and communicating information to community groups as needed
Assisting Director of Markets and Market Manager with other duties as needed
Assisting Market Manager with coordination of Green Plate Special prepared foods
Managing Marketeers program ? Enrolling new participants, mailing of birthday cards, and maintenance of database
Beverage prep ? Hot and iced coffee and iced tea preparation
Qualifications
College degree or current student, or relevant work experience. Highly organized self-starter with strong cash handling accuracies, attention to detail, demonstrated customer service skills and excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of database software programs, intermediate Microsoft Excel skill level and familiarly of basic accounting principles preferred. Ability to manage relationships with a diverse population (schools, seniors, farmers, other community members). Highly responsible and accountable. Willingness to work irregular hours, outdoors year-round and weekends. Must be available Mondays between 9 am - 11 am, Tuesdays 7 am - 3 pm, Fridays 2 pm - 9 pm and Saturday 6 am - 2 pm.
