Sr. Fraud Investigator Job Opening in Baltimore, Maryland - The Sr. Fraud Investigator conducts objective examinations and investigations of alleged misconduct or suspected violations against policies and procedures of the Hopkins Institutions (Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Health System) and/or laws of the State of Maryland and/or the United States. Provides written reports of findings, conclusions and recommendations. Supports and educates the staff of the Office of Hopkins Internal Audit and assists with the identification of fraud risk areas. Ensures new policies are implemented to prevent recurrence. Coordinates with General Counsel, Human Resources, Corporate/Campus Security and other JH offices to facilitate investigations. On a regular and continuous basis, the Senior Investigator exercises administrative judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences and results having an impact on people, costs and/or quality of service within a functional area. The Senior Investigator can make decisions necessary to carry out assigned tasks at the discretion of the Executive director. In addition, the Senior Investigator must comply with the office of Internal Audits policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
Conduct thorough administrative and/or criminal investigations.
Interview witnesses and suspects during the course of investigations.
Work independently, but consult with Chief Audit Officer in a timely manner with status updates and/or when experiencing obstacles in the field.
Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and other business and fraud-related software to search and analyze databases for physical and documentary evidence.
Use evidence to substantiate findings and conclusions.
Prepare clear and detailed reports of investigations which support findings and conclusions and present information to Senior Management.
Provide expert testimony in legal or administrative procedures.
Work effectively with Federal and State law enforcement agencies and prosecutors to assist with criminal actions resulting from investigations.
Communicate effectively with Johns Hopkins Human Resource Departments and Johns Hopkins General Counsel Offices.
Partner with Johns Hopkins Campus Security and Johns Hopkins Corporate Security during investigations in an effort to maintain an excellent working relationship.
Participate on Committees dealing with employee misconduct and controlled substance diversion.
Collaborate with the Internal Audit Staff and educate them with respect to current fraud risks and fraud prevention.
Assist the Internal Audit Staff in resolving fraud issues identified during the course of a departmental audit.
Present fraud risks and best practices to Senior Management, Divisional Business Officers and others in an effort to mitigate fraud.
Investigate Compliance Line Complaints as assigned and resolve them in a timely manner with proper notification to the Chief Risk Officer and General Counsel as to the outcome of the complaint.
Review Office of Hopkins Internal Audit data analytic tools for potential indicators of fraud and investigate as necessary
Qualifications
Candidate must hold a Bachelor?s degree in Accounting or Business, or a related field.
Candidate should have a minimum of ten years? experience in financial crimes investigations.
Fifteen or more years' of experience preferred.
Possess excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office, SAP, ACL or any other fraud related analytical software.
Ability to stay objective during investigatory process and maintain high levels of emotional intelligence.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience and law enforcement background is preferred.
Professional certification or progress toward certification (Certified Public Accountant, CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Master?s Degree)
