Hotels Director of Sales Job Opening in Wilmington, North carolina - BASIC FUNCTION: Develop and implement sales & marketing strategies for the hotel to ensure revenue and room night sales goals are achieved, sales & marketing strategies are set, tactical plans are created and implemented, and results are monitored and achieved. Directs the overall solicitation efforts of the sales, catering & revenue management teams in a manner consistent with established standards and policies of the brand and/or Company. Participate in total hotel management as a member of the hotel?s Executive Committee.
JOB DUTIES :
Ensure that quality services are rendered by department in meeting quest needs, and that good guest relations are enhanced
Achieve budgeted revenues and personal/team sales goals and maximize profitability. Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget, the hotel marketing plan and business plan, and financial plans.
Create and implement sales plans that drive measurable incremental occupancy, increase average rates, increase volume, food, beverage, banquet and catering sales.
Prepare, analyze and review forecasts, business/action plans, statements and a variety of internal and external reports. Review monthly reports and sales forecasts to analyze current/potential market and sales trends, coordinate activities to increase revenue and market share; and monitor performance to ensure actual sales meet or exceed established revenue plan.
Communicate to appropriate departments all pertinent information, requirements and special needs for arriving VIPs, groups and other events.
Develop and maintain relationships with key clients and outside contacts in order to produce group and/or transient business, to include room sales, food & beverage sales and catering & banquet sales.
Create and develop special events and sales blitzes to showcase the hotel to potential clients. Attend trade shows and major market events locally, and nationally, to promote new business and increase sales and marketing opportunities for the hotel. Develop awareness and reputation of the hotel and the brand in the local community; may serve as the hotel representative for media-related inquiries. Work closely with key business leaders, officials and representatives of local community groups to ensure constant high profile exposure for the hotel.
Direct day-to-day sales activities, plan and assign work; and establish performance and development goals for team members. Provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to help manage conflict, improve team member performance and recognize good performance.
Educate, train and motivate sales, catering and revenue management teams to achieve hotel revenue goals. Ensure staff has the information, market data, tools and equipment to successfully carry out job duties.
Perform special projects and other tasks as assigned. Participate in task force and committees as required. May also serve as Manager on Duty.
Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve the overall objectives of this position
Maintains a favorable working relationship with all other company employees to foster and promote a cooperative and harmonious working climate

Skills Needed
Excellent speech communication skills required to converse with guests.
Ability to perform critical analysis.
Ability to manage extensive amounts of information and provide constructive feedback and/or direction.
Extensive knowledge of marketing, negotiating and sales procedures associated with the hotel industry.
Excellent written skills sufficient to produce sales and marketing communication that properly reflects the brand, hotel and Company image.
Excellent spoken and presentation skills.
Considerable ability to listen effectively.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team.
Ability to delegate, manage and organize complex projects and establish priorities consistent with department, hotel and Company objectives.
Ability to effectively communicate and deal with department heads, customers and team members; some of whom may require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy.

Ability to effectively lead a team of professionals.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Four year college degree or equivalent required.
Experience: Five (5) years of hotel sales experience required. Must possess a proven track record of success in achieving revenue objectives; proven ability to recruit, motivate and train a sales team.
