DxTerity is bringing genomics to every day care through the development of diagnostic tests for disease monitoring and therapy prognosis determination. We believe that understanding underlying disease progression and immunological response are critical to the effective management of many diseases, and we are focused on providing molecular information in a way that can fundamentally change the practice of medicine. DxTerity is developing in vitro diagnostic tests and Next Generation Sequencing Panels for immune response, autoimmune, and cancer applications. DxTerity's goal is to provide simple and cost-effective approaches to complex genetic tests, enabling their use in routine medical care to improve patient outcomes and lower health care costs.
Job Opportunity:
DxTerity Diagnostics is in need of a Computational Biologist who has the ambition and knowledge to create breakthroughs in this exciting market. The candidate will be responsible for analyzing genomic data sets, and working with a team of scientists to develop new diagnostic tests. The candidate should be versed in analyzing RNA-sequencing and microarray datasets. They must have the ability to integrate various datasets and identify changes in gene expression. The candidate should be proficient in open source tools in Linux/Unix such as the tuxedo suite (TopHat, Bowtie, and Cufflinks). The candidate must be comfortable with one of the following: R, Perl, or Python, and willing to learn others tools as needed. They should have some statistical background in terms of multiple hypothesis testing and false discovery rates and have experience in developing analytical The candidate should be hands on and comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic company. The candidate must be results-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to work efficiently to achieve time-sensitive milestones.
Essential Functions:
Provide disease, modeling, and data analysis expertise to healthcare related projects.
Plan, manage, and execute assigned projects utilizing established best practices and/or innovative procedures, applying knowledge and accumulated experience to complete projects.
Analyze data, evaluate results, and form conclusions.
Document work results in the form of laboratory notebook entries, written reports and/or company presentations. Documentation must be clearly understandable to the target audience and compliant with requirements of regulatory agencies and/or protection of company intellectual property.
Develop a good understanding of competing technologies and new technical advances so as to effectively utilize current best practices and devise robust solutions to technical problems.
Ensure activities are consistent with project critical path, and respond appropriately to changing priorities. Manage activities and assigned projects to reach agreed objectives.
Work closely with team members in a collaborative environment.
Develop work plans and approaches to deliver results as efficiently as possible.
Adjust work schedule to meet time-sensitive project milestones.
Nature and Scope:
Participates with team members to analyze and understand diverse datasets. Develops an efficient work plan for the achievement of goals and able to develop novel solutions to overcome obstacles. Maintains a high quality notebook and carefully documents innovations.
Measures of Contribution/Impact:
Contribution is measured through, but not limited to, timely achievement of program milestones, innovative solutions to complex problems, new product development, and effective team participation.
Education:
MS or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Biology, Mathematics or related field.
Experience:
2+ years of relevant experience analyzing RNA sequencing and microarray data sets.
Experience in design & development of algorithms for biomarker discovery / molecular diagnostics tests
Strong background in data analysis & statistical modeling of biological data
Strong software engineering skills in bioinformatics, experience working with omics databases and networks
Proficient in open source tools in Linux/Unix such as the tuxedo suite (TopHat, Bowtie, and Cufflinks)
Comfortable with one of the following: R, Perl, or Python
Previous experience working in a commercial setting is a plus.
Experience in network infrastructure is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to solve complicated problems.
Knowledge of QSR-compliant environment a plus.
Key knowledge includes:
Awareness of global technology trends in the area of medical diagnostics including companion diagnostics, biomarker discovery, next gen sequencing and expression analysis
In depth knowledge of RNA-seq analysis methods.
Advanced technical writing skills to produce reports and documents.
Key skills/abilities include:
Must have excellent leadership and communication skills with experience in training and supervising technical personnel.
Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple and changing projects and priorities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interpret and summarize scientific results in a clear, concise, accurate manner.
Demonstrated ability to formulate and solve problems.
