Adult Education Instructor, Healthcare Bridge Job Opening in Chicago, Illinois - Albany Park Community Center, an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer, is seeking a Part-time Adult Education Instructor (Healthcare Bridge) for its Adult Education Program located at 5101 N. Kimball Ave., Chicago, IL 60625.
Work Schedule: Saturdays 8:30AM to 3:00PM (4 hours of teaching time and 2.5 of preparation
time (required to complete at least half of your prep time on-site special project work), data entry, and team meetings (attendance required at teacher meetings once a month)
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans and delivers healthcare contextualized reading, writing, and math instruction to enrolled healthcare bridge adult learners.
Implements lesson plans for computer skills for healthcare instruction.
Develops syllabus with materials and activities using Microsoft Office programs that replicate uses of computers in healthcare setting (i.e. charting, billing, scheduling, and memos) and/or modify or use existing healthcare materials used in the classroom for use with technology.
Conducts research on computer-assisted instruction software, information technology, and websites for healthcare career and make recommendations with the help of the Technology Coach and Director of Adult Education Programs and Data.
Be on site a minimum of 15 minutes before each class is scheduled to begin.
Prepares and records daily lesson plans.
Records learner attendance and participation in other learning activities.
Assesses adult learners? skills, needs, and interests. Helps students set attainable goals and plans in healthcare.
Provides individualized academic/career exploration advisement and support for healthcare career goals to each student with assistance from the Transition Specialist and Director of Adult Education Programs and Data.
Observes the progress of learners, and keeps records and documentation of individual progress. Conducts and records results of teacher-learner conferences.
Communicates regularly with students on attendance, assessments, and other needs.
Collaborates and consults with other staff members toward integration of all program components (ex. participate in field trips, special activities).
Assists in the research and development of effective curriculum for healthcare, instructional methods, and materials, best practices for transition, and needed support services in collaboration with Director of Adult Education Programs and Data.
Participates in departmental projects, events, and operations.
Actively works on professional growth by attending conferences, staff meetings, and pre-service and in-service training as provided, some of which may be supported by the agency, and by remaining current in Best Practices of bridge instruction and advisement, healthcare job skills, and knowledge of careers students are seeking.
Qualifications:
Bachelor?s degree required, Master's preferred, from an accredited institution, with a concentration in Reading/Literacy, Adult Education, TESOL, Secondary Education, Special Education or related field.
At least one year full-time equivalent of teaching experience in a similar setting preferred.
Professional experience in the field of healthcare preferred.
