Pharmacogenomic Evaluation of Antihypertensive Responses (PEAR-2) What is the PEAR-2 study? � The PEAR-2 study is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health and is being conducted at, the University of Florida in Gainesville, Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. � The study is designed to answer questions about how genes affect response to blood pressure treatment with Metoprolol, a beta-blocker, and Clorthalidone, a diuretic. Who can participate? � Men and women with high blood pressure between the ages of 18 and 65 who are otherwise healthy. � Men and women who do not have a history of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, or kidney disease. � Men and women who are currently taking no more than 2 blood pressure medications. What are the benefits? � Lab tests, clinic visits and thorough blood pressure evaluation at no cost to you. � High blood pressure medicine and blood pressure monitor at no cost to you. � Those who qualify for the study may be compensated up to $250.00 if all study visits are completed.
