Medical Records Specialist Job Opening in Phoenix, Arizona - Accountability: Reports to Director of Compliance & Quality Improvement
General Summary: Independent position which receives and processes requests for release of health records and tracks, fulfills/denies requests within appropriate timelines. This includes, but is not limited to, the following duties: extracting records from the EMR, copying records to an electronic or paper medium, abstracting information from records, releasing records to authorized parties and invoicing requestors for copies. Records requests received may come from multiple sources including; attorneys, patients, insurance companies, physicians, clinics, and hospitals. Documents may need retrieval from an external storage facility.
Primary Functions:
1. Receives and processes requests for release of health records and tracks, fulfills/denies requests within appropriate timelines - extracting records from the EMR, copying records to an electronic or paper medium, abstracting information from records, releasing records to authorized parties and invoicing requestors for copies.
2. Performs quality assurance reviews on documents
3. Assists with release of information standards, process, policies and procedures
4. Strives for and implements continuous process improvement
5. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: - High school diploma plus Medical Records Technician or Electronic Health Records Specialist certification and 1 year demonstrated experience; Experience utilizing an EMR system, Credible preferred; Working knowledge of Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations standards, Medicaid Conditions of Participation, HIPAA, HiTEC in relation to PHI transmission, and State and Federal laws governing the confidentiality of patient information is essential; Aptitude to research and apply changes in State and Federal laws relating to release of information; Working knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques related to compliant document imaging/forms management
