Our firm manages on a discretionary basis customized fixed income portfolios for institutional clients. Clients include public and private corporations, non-profits, cities, counties, school districts, and special districts, insurance companies, credit unions and regional/community banks. Portfolios are designed to protect principal and target liquidity needs for clients. Moreton Asset Management is affiliated with Moreton Capital Markets a broker-dealer working with institutional clients also headquartered in Salt Lake City serving clients in several western states.
Job Description: Working closely with a bright, pragmatic team of fixed income portfolio managers and professionals, the associate portfolio manager trains under our team of portfolio managers learning all aspects of the institutional fixed income asset management business. You will learn compliance, trading, sales, presenting, market analysis, amongst other skill sets. The successful candidate will have a strong desire to learn, and will be required to significantly expand responsibilities over time. After 12 months the position will be evaluated and upon demonstration of the required skill sets be promoted to a portfolio manager role. Job will pay a base of $40 to $60K plus incentives and bonuses based upon performance.
Responsibilities: It is expected that the successful candidate will be a collaborative, goal-oriented professional. The role will require an ability to learn quickly, focus on detail, and to be able to multi-task. The ability to operate with limited oversight; be self-directed, organized, will be critical to success. It is expected that the Associate Portfolio Manager will learn and execute several aspects of the discretionary portfolio management business.
Learn how to manage investment portfolios, analyzing and understanding the fixed income market
Book trades and communicate effectively with custodial relationships
Understand and explain fixed income accounting and reporting software
Understand and stay updated on industry rules and regulations governing the industry
Understand investment policy guidelines and investment statutes for multiple types of institutional entities
Learn how to respond to client emails, set up client and prospect meetings, and prepare for presentations
Learn how to develop new business by calling, emailing, and developing sphere of influence to identify new clients
Learn how to present to prospects, stake holders, and hold educational seminars
Learn how to establish trust and generate new leads at conferences
Learn how to conduct portfolio reviews and engage clients in an advisory capacity.
Read the financial news and stay current on financial events and the economy.
Qualification and Skills:
3-5+ years of equity or fixed income investment experience
Licenses: Series 7 and 66 (or 7, 63, and 65)
Preferred: Masters Degree in Business or CFA or working on Masters in Business or a CFA.
Strong sales and marketing skills, with attention to detail
Strong presentation skills ? able to effectively position investment solutions in a consultative fashion to institutional clients
Ability to work in a team environment
Demonstrated use of investment management industry sales processes / business methodologies
Knowledge of fixed income products, industry trends, and regulatory knowledge
Competitor knowledge, including products
A proven track record of selling investment solutions
Relationship building skills - creativity, patience and persistence in identifying and pursuing new relationships as well as maintaining and deepening existing relationships over the long term
