Financial Controller Job Opening in Garden City, New york - A prominent Long Island based law firm with offices in New York City, Albany and Washington, D.C., is seeking an experienced Controller. This position is responsible for the firm's daily financial management functions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Ensure monthly general ledger reconciliations are complete and accurate.
Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital.
Oversee work performed by outside accountants (including tax filings, audits and annual reviews).
Oversee and assist with the budget preparation.
Liaison with banks, ADP and Time and Billing Vendor (JURIS).
Prepare balance sheet, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize current and projected financial positions of the firm.
Oversee the accuracy and timeliness of billing and implements client eBilling submissions as required by our client base. Maximize collection efforts and provide meaningful reports to management.
Review new client fee agreements and fee schedules to ensure that clients are properly and timely invoiced.
Prepare and distribute complete, accurate and timely financial statements.
Oversee and manage the accuracy and timeliness of the Accounting and Billing processes and staff. Ability to motivate staff to produce top quality work product. Skills & Knowledge: Must have proven experience with Collections, Billing, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Bank Reconciliation, Fixed Assets, Financial Reporting and Expense possess the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize work, handle multiple tasks and maintain discretion on confidential verbal and written communication skills required in order to communicate with attorneys and staff.**
Advanced PowerPoint skills needed for creating slides and presenting to senior management.
Ability to troubleshoot, research and reconcile accounting issues as they arise.
Must be proficient in Advanced Excel with extensive knowledge in utilizing advanced formulas and pivot tables.
A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting is required with a minimum of ten (10) years of accounting experience with a desired minimum of five (5) years of senior-level experience. Candidates who are CPA?s with experience managing within a law firm (or other professional service firm) will be given priority. Juris Accounting System experience is strongly preferred.
