ST. CLAIR SHORES ADULT & COMMUNITY EDUCATION
POSITION : Adult Basic Education (ABE) teacher for the 2017/18 evening program. One (1) position is available: ABE Language Arts/Social Studies
SUMMARY : Instruct adult students who perform at a basic skill level (lower than 9th grade) in English, Reading and Social Studies as indicated by the TABE assessment in preparation for entry into a HSE preparation program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor?s Degree or higher with Current Michigan Teaching Certificate (Highly Qualified), 9-12 grade level, English/Social Studies
Experience teaching ABE or HSE adult learners desired
Writing and grammar skills necessary
Positive communication skills working with adult students
Experience with HSE format desired
Knowledge of updated Common Core Standards
Good organizational skills
RESPONSIBILITIES
Follow syllabus for ABE/HSE preparation course.
Facilitate information from core textbook and sublimate online material.
Provide basic skills instruction in English and Reading to adult students.
Instruct students in English and Social Studies areas utilizing technology aids.
Incorporate Career and Technical Education (work skills) into curriculum.
Administer TABE and HSE practice tests during and/or end of semester.
Develop lesson plans to help students increase basic skills and show improvement on a TABE post-test.
Reference State curriculum guidelines (framework) when preparing lessons.
Utilize resource materials to promote individual gains.
Properly track attendance and other required documents as dictated by the Pupil Accountant and program requirements.
Follow attendance and voucher procedures under state requirements.
Attend scheduled staff and/or emergency meetings.
Work cooperatively as a team member with staff, administrators, and students.
Additional duties as dictated by the nature of the program.
TERMS
Tuesday evening, 5:30pm ? 9:00pm (classes begin at 5:45pm); Approximately 3.5 Hours/Week
Hourly pay range: $23.00 - $24.00/Hour
