Senior Accountant Job Opening in Bozeman, Montana - Senior Accountant
Summary :
The senior accountant roll will directly report to the assistant controller and controller. This position is expected to have a strong sense of ownership, ability to identify process improvement opportunities, and have an excellent knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements. The Senior Accountant serves as occasional backup for other positions on the accounting team and helps facilitate the completion of financial objectives.
The senior accountant?s responsibilities also include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures. A successful Senior accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has also experience collaborating and/or managing a team of accountants and junior accountants.
Responsibilities
Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile general ledger activities
Responsible for the accounting of nine subsidiaries
Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
Review check runs and attached source documents
Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures
Support staff accountants and bookkeepers
Participate in financial standards setting and in budgeting process
Provide input into department?s goal setting process
Effectively handle and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
Prepare financial statements and produce budget according to schedule
Assist with tax audits and tax returns
Direct internal and external audits to ensure compliance
Plan, assign and review staff?s work
Support month-end and year-end close process
Assists in preparation of monthly management report and accompanying schedules, worksheets and narratives, including ?Budget vs. Actual? variance reports. Assist in providing follow-up and documentation of significant variances.
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
Qualifications
Degree in accounting or related field with sufficient experience to sit for the CPA exam (a CPA license is not required for this position
Strong analytical and accounting skills.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Excellent writing and verbal communications skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail a MUST
Advanced Excel Skills
Mix of public and private accounting experience preferred
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Positive personality, attitude and professionalism
3-5 Year experience in a leadership roll
BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
Work Schedule
The work day core hours are 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, however this position may require a flexible schedule with varying hours to include occasional weekends.
