Medical Billing Specialist Job Opening in Newport, Maine - HOMETOWN Health Center , a Federally Qualified Health Center that offers medical, dental, & behavioral health services, has an immediate opening for a Medical Billing Specialist . With offices located in Newport, Pittsfield, Dover-Foxcroft & Dexter, our experienced and compassionate staff strive to provide each and every patient with individual attention, thoughtfulness, and kindness.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Billing Specialist is responsible for completing charge entries, processing of claims, posting accounts receivable and maintaining patient accounts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Completes upload of claims for office visits, hospitals and nursing homes; runs missing charge report daily; scrubs charges daily prior to claim submission.
Downloads EFT payments from the clearinghouse.
Completes posting of all patient and insurance payments; follows up on open Insurance claims; works insurance denials after posting of insurance payments.; runs/works claims on hold report; sends electronic insurance claims daily and paper insurance claims weekly; works claims denied by clearinghouse daily; refunds patient and insurance credit balances.
Maintains deposit spreadsheet.
Assists in completion of Medicare quarterly credit report.
Assists patients with statement/account issues; assists patients with Sliding Scale applications and questions.
Works billing tasks in NextGen Worklog.
Works patient collection tasks in NextGen including adding patients to the collections spreadsheet; adjusts accounts that are being sent to collections.
Balances- Monthly Close.
Uploads Patient Statements twice per week and downloads Statement Reports to the Shared drive; correct any errors (incorrect address, etc.).
Processes returned mail.
Works with Manager and outside Credentialing service to resolve any credentialing issues.
Audits Patient Charts as needed to ensure proper charges have been submitted. Works with providers to resolve any documentation or coding issues.
Maintains up to date knowledge of ICD 10 CM and CPT codes.

Work is performed primarily in a busy medical office setting with frequent deadlines; noise level is quiet to moderate. This position requires long periods of VDT exposure with proper office ergonomic mechanics. Work may be repetitive and employee should alternate tasks to avoid injury.
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR POSITION :
Experience and Skill Requirements: The following experience and skills are considered essential:
Two to three years of experience in medical billing; preferably in an clinical office setting.
Experience with ICD 10 CM,CPT and HCPCS code assignment.
Good organizational skills to handle multiple priorities while remaining professional and calm.
Ability to work with many diverse people.

Must have the ability to maintain patient confidentiality due to the sensitivity of materials and information handled at all times.

Education Requirements: The following education requirements are considered essential:
Associate's Degree in a related field preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required with course work in medical and coding.
Certified Professional Coder preferred.
