Staff Accountant Job Opening in Bethesda, Maryland - Job Summary:
Key responsibilities of the Staff Accountant ? Accounts Payable involve the timely and accurate reporting on and payment of company liabilities and maintenance of vendor relationships. This position will report directly to the Director of Finance/Controller but will involve responding to questions and requests from others in our 4 companies (BLR Holdings, The Boss Group, Cella Consulting and Proposal Development), including the President, COO, Directors, Branch Managers and others. The major focus of this position is the maintenance of vendor records and timely payments and reporting. Special projects will be undertaken from time to time and this position will be required to cross train in billing clients.
Responsibilities:
Review and process all vendor invoices for payment to ensure proper authorizations and coding prior to entry into the accounting system
Interacts with internal staff and onsite managers regarding the accounts payable processes and accounting requirements
Handles complex vendor inquiries and accounts payable processes
(Manages purchasing function) ? future
Handles corrections and adjustments to vendor accounts and vendor transactions
Cross trains in billing and can function as billing backup
Performs month end reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
Performs month end accruals for regular vendors
Coordinates with team for other month end closing requirements
Process expense reports for company issued credit cards
Maintain W9s for 1099 vendors
Reconcile and issue 1099s at year end
Other duties and special projects as need arises
Experience and Qualifications Required:
Must be organized and able to focus on work requirements in a fast paced, dead line oriented and often distracting environment as part of a team
Strong Excel skills and high attention to detail
Ability to prioritize work
Good communication skills
Prior experience with MSFT Dynamics (GP or Solomon) or similar system preferred
Working knowledge of accounting policies and practices
Bachelor?s degree in accounting or the equivalent
Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in a similar role
Must be a good critical thinker and able to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of tasks and offer suggestions for improvements
