Behavioral Health Consultant
Fair Labor Standards Act Classification: Exempt
Pay Range: Negotiable within range
Supervisor: CMO/BHC Lead
Summary: Assists and provides treatment to patients in need of Behavioral Health Services in an integrated, team based manner, supporting primary care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the assessment of, planning, arranging, and implementing of psychosocial programs.
Coordinates a range of office, community, and home-based services.
Provides Integrated Behavioral Health Services and Substance Abuse Treatment activities at the health center.
Partners with primary care staff to provide the integration of behavioral health in a primary health care setting and community outreach and partnership development.
Provides screening to patients presenting to primary care setting and determines resources needed, as necessary.
Utilizes motivational interviewing and harm reduction techniques.
Performs brief assessments and crisis interventions to develop a clinical response plan.
Counsels patients on mental illness, personal issues, addiction, and abuse.
Provides individual, family and group therapy services, as well as provides psychoeducational groups within the health center.
Assists in the continued development and growth of the Mountain Laurel Medical Center behavioral health program and in collaboration with the primary care providers.
Provides in-service presentations to staff as needed.
May carry separate administrative responsibilities while working with diverse staff and service population.
Provides excellent patient centered customer service while being friendly and courteous to all employees and patients; can handle multiple tasks at once and has the ability to compassionately and empathetically care for patients.
Upholds the Code of Ethics and mission of Mountain Laurel Medical Center by conducting professional activities with honesty, integrity, respect, fairness, and good faith in a manner that will reflect well upon the organization.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated work record showing good attendance, punctuality, dependability and the ability to work as member of a team with supervisors, and other co-workers in an appropriate professional manner. Must have strong communication, planning and organizing skills; additionally, must possess the ability to multi-task, and demonstrate great attention to detail.
:
Master?s degree in a related field such as Social Work required with LCSW or LCPC. LGSW may be considered.
Five years of progressive growth in a post-masters or related position preferred. Experience in a mental health or social services environment is required.
Experience in an ambulatory health center is preferred.
Additional training in substance abuse treatment or willingness to pursue such while employed at Mountain Laurel Medical Center.
Self-starter, capable of managing the care of multiple patients simultaneously. Current driver?s license is required.
Understanding of HealthCare laws and Regulations:
Must have the ability to follow HIPAA guidelines as well as an understanding of policies and procedures regarding medical records put in place by the Federal Government.
Reasoning Ability:
Must be able to demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Team Work:
An essential element is the ability to work and interact effectively and positively with other staff members to build and enhance teamwork in a patient centered team based model of care and in the overall MLMC organization; team engagement is a must to be successful in this position.
Work Record:
A demonstrated work record showing good attendance, punctuality, dependability and the ability to work well with supervisors and coworkers as part of a team effort is essential. A medical office setting is an environment that requires the ability to relate to all types of people while always maintaining a professional demeanor.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals is essential. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and the ability to speak effectively to patients, co-workers and the public at large is paramount.
Additional Skills:
Must have the ability to read and interpret medical and work environment related documents involving patient care, program descriptions, government regulations and MLMC policy and procedures.
Sensitivity to Needs of Special Populations:
Must be able to demonstrate an understanding and sensitivity to cultural differences and needs of MLMC patients and be able to respond appropriately to all people regardless of race, ethnicity, language, age, sex or sexual orientation, religion, disability, economic standing, etc.
Physical Demands:
The work environment is a typical outpatient medical clinic. While performing the duties of this job, candidates may be required to drive, sit for extended periods, spend time standing and walking, handle considerable paperwork, operate computers, lift up to 15 pound boxes of supplies and assist patients who may have limited mobility.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in a typical, outpatient clinic environment and possibly at locations outside the office. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
