Purchasing Agent Job Opening in Boardman, Oregon - The Port of Morrow is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent that will negotiate and transact with approved suppliers for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment, and services used by Port. Purchasing Agent will source from new & existing suppliers all materials, supplies, equipment, and services and negotiate contracts with suppliers for the same. Additional responsibilities will include materials management and production control. The responsibilities of this position will be accomplished by a combination of time in the office and a significant amount of time on the shop yard and occasional job sites. This position requires the Purchasing Agent to be hands on and have experience in a shop environment with knowledge of tools, manufacturing, and industrial processes and equipment.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Purchase all production materials.
Maintain inventory for key stock items.
Manage purchase requisition process.
Work with to determine quantities and types of material required for individual jobs.
Distribute requests for quotation to approved suppliers, evaluate bids, and award business.
Ensure on-time delivery of supplier product and follow-up on material shortages and past-due material from purchase orders.
Participate in identifying, evaluating, and developing potential new suppliers.
Support commercial functions by providing material cost information.
Support accounting in resolving accounts payable discrepancies.
Support receiving process by enforcing and assisting with material identification, tagging, and shipping instructions with suppliers, etc.
Any other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
EXPERIENCE:
2+ years? experience in environment required
Familiar with purchasing and materials management practices, procedures, contract issues, and legal compliance.
Must be able to run a forklift
:
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Comfortable handling multiple priorities.
Some background in negotiation skills.
Mechanical and spatial aptitudes.
Knowledge of pipe and pipe fittings and installation preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, occasionally bend and move about the facility.
Routine office environment.
Frequent exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes and odors.
PPE will be required while performing specific tasks.
