Budget Analyst Intern, Fall 2017 Job Opening in New York, New york - Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic budget analyst intern to join our finance and budget department. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, and has a basic knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and of how to build and analyze budgets. You will be mentored by the budget director and comptroller, and be involved in the daily activities of the finance and budget department.
Internship Description You will be taught the accounting software system Sage MIP as well as the expense management system Concur. Projects and tasks you may work on will include:
Work with program and project managers to develop the organization's budget
Review managers' budget proposals for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with laws and other regulations
Combine all the program and department budgets together into a consolidated organizational budget
Monitor organizational spending to ensure that it is within budget
Inform program managers of the status and availability of funds
Estimate future financial needs
Review budget proposals and funding requests
Submit budget recommendations for approval or rejection of funding requests
Make forecasts for future budget needs
Prepare periodical and special reports
You will also have the opportunity to attend regular learning and social events with other interns and staff from PHR to round out your learning experience and complement career mentoring provided by the budget director and comptroller.
PHR internships are unpaid. You may be able to arrange academic credit, and should check with your individual academic institution for requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program of study, specialization in accounting or finance preferred
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Well organized, detailed oriented, and able to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
Ability to communicate well and work as part of a team
Location and Hours
The internship is based in PHR?s New York City office in midtown Manhattan
This unpaid internship is part-time, 3-4 days a week (flexible scheduling)
The internship will commence in September with at least a 10-week commitment
