Power Marketing Analyst Job Opening in Hattiesburg, Mississippi - Position Summary

Responsible for monitoring, investigating, reporting and recommending strategy as a result of wholesale power market operations for Cooperative Energy. Responsible for financial analysis, reporting, and data management as necessary to support timely and accurate mandated filings and reports. The Analyst position will gain a solid understanding of the company including rate cost drivers, industry participants, and the market in which the business operates.

Essential Job Functions
Reviews prior day generating unit financial results searching for improvement opportunities. Communicates with Power Market Coordinators to potentially modify unit bidding strategies. Researches and implements continuous improvement mechanisms to better streamline the tools and processes of the Power Marketing department. Develops tools and queries as needed to obtain wholesale power market data used in evaluations. Maintains and develops additional processes to recommend future market rule changes for MISO through idea submission with applicable Committee(s). Evaluates daily revenues and variable margin estimates for all ISO sales and purchases in the Day-Ahead and Real Time Market transactions. Performs post-operational analysis of previous days and months wholesale market activities. Coordinates with third-party market support staff as applicable. Compiles and compares monthly generation plan inputs to historic data. Develops reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis summarizing Cooperative Energy's power market activities.
Reviews potential market counter parties, develops contacts, and evaluates and recommends purchase/sales contracts to expand Cooperative Energy marketing capabilities.
Education: Bachelor's Degree Engineering General (ABET Accredited Institution) Or Bachelor's Degree Business Administration Or Bachelor's Degree Accounting Or Bachelor's Degree Economics Or Bachelor's Degree Mathematics Or Bachelor's Degree Information Systems Or Related Field

Certifications and Licensures: Successfully pass a security sensitive background screening. Required

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint with advanced Excel skills. Experience with Excel VBA or SQL is a plus.
Skill in analyzing and interpreting financial, numerical and statistical data.
Ability to master multiple software packages.
Superior math skills.
Strong analytical and logical reasoning ability.
Must be methodical and able to accurately handle details.
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
Demonstrate ability to effectively work with others in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
