Emergency Department RN Job Opening in Charleston, South carolina - The Department of Veterans Affairs, Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, has a need for Registered Nurses (RNs) to provide temporary healthcare services during staffing shortages. Services shall be provided at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, 109 Bee Street, Charleston, SC 29401RNs are required in the following units:
Medical/Surgical, Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MICU/SICU), Behavioral Health, Dialysis and Emergency Department (ED) Medical/Surgical units service multiple providers, ordering treatments, phlebotomies, and medications for various medical or surgical disorders. Other requirements include an initial and ongoing physical, psychosocial assessment and emergent treatment as needed. Additional needs may be but not limited to leaving the clinical area for patient diagnostic testing, supplies, and/or performance management improvements and outcomes. The Dialysis clinic services patients with end stage renal disease who require hemodialysis treatments. It is an outpatient patient clinic that provides hemodialysis for up to 30 chronic patients, as well as inpatients and ICU patients. In addition to providing hemodialysis, the clinic also provides Iron infusions for patients being followed by the Nephrology Service.
RNs shall provide coverage 8 or 12 hours per day (including Federal Holidays) for an undetermined length of time, not to exceed a 13-week period.
Duties:
Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for a specific patient or group(s) of patients with attention to their physical and psychosocial needs. Assesses and reports changes in the patient?s condition.
Provides emergency care as indicated and/or as needed.
Ensures continuity of care by collaborating with co-workers, reviewing pertinent patient information, conducting nursing rounds and conferences, and updating nursing plans of care.
Documents nursing care in the electronic record according to service standards which accurately reflects the patient?s condition and maximizes continuity of care efforts within the tour of duty.
Utilizes Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) to accurately document medications and follow-up effectiveness.
Performs treatments and procedures consistent with approved standards and the needs of individual patients in an organized, timely manner.
Fosters a holistic approach to patient care through collaboration with others during multidisciplinary rounds and then updating nursing plans to facilitate desired patient outcomes.
Demonstrates respect for the patient and family while administering nursing care and maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job:
Ability to conduct a psychosocial and physical assessment
Understanding of adult learning principles
Venipuncture and blood drawing capability from various central venous lines
Application of sterile dressings, wet to dry dressing, medicated dressings (such as algiderm, colloids, betadine, etc.)
Application and monitoring of protective devices
Use of the pulse oximeter
Use of blood glucose monitoring equipment
Use of the ?doppler?
Use of intravenous infusion pumps
Administration of various IV push medications per Center Policy Memorandum
All nurses shall have current Registered Nurse License. The listed requirements below are considered the minimum qualifications for placement in each specialty assignment:
Emergency Department:
Ability to diagnose, monitor and treat patient responses to life threatening health problems and coordinate the care delivered by various health care providers.
This nurse will use independent and multidisciplinary collaborative interventions to restore patient stability, anticipate patient care needs, prevent complications and achieve and maintain optimal patient responses.
Must have a documented minimum of 2 years (24 months) working a Emergency nursing assignment within an inpatient hospital environment within the past 5 years (60 months).
Must have ACLS and BLS Certification.
Computer Program required: Experience in using Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) and Microsoft Office Package.
