Junior Retail Accountant Job Opening in Millburn, New jersey - General Overview:
Contributes to managing the retail accounting function for the apparel company through the preparation and analysis of monthly financial records.
Responsibilities:
Participate in the month end closing process
Prepare monthly journal entries to facilitate identification of proper general ledger balances.
Journal entry responsibilities include but are not limited to the following
1) Clothing Allowance / Gift Cards
2) Accrued Expenses
3) Accrued Bonuses
4) Bank Reconciliations
5) 3rd Party Billing
Analyze information in various general ledger accounts to assure that proper actual or budgeted expenses are booked and be prepared to offer input as to expenses which need to be accrued.
Participate in monthly Profit and Loss reviews.
Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
Prepare monthly sales and use tax returns and/or help with the preparation of certain tax reporting that is prepared by the accounting department.
Participate in special projects as assigned by the Vice President ? Finance or the Retail Controller.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
Must have a four year degree in accounting.
Three to four years of accounting department experience (1-3 of those years should have been in a retail accounting department environment).
Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
Major accounting system knowledge a plus (AS400, MAS, etc.).
