Non Profit - Bookkeeper Job Opening in Brooklyn, New york - The SONYC bookkeeper is responsible for the organization?s three SONYC programs financial data and adherence to fiscal policies and procedures. Assisting and coordinating the delivery of the organization?s financial information. The Bookkeeper will directly assist the Finance Director with a wide range of projects related to expense reporting, auditing, account reconciliation, revenue processing, and grant accounting. One of the main responsibilities will be to manage the organizations reimbursable SONYC contracts from the city of New York. Perform with a semi restricted funds account, create expense reports monthly (PERS) and work alongside the Fiscal Manager and two Co-Executive Directors. There will be direct contact with city state agencies. This is a great opportunity for someone who is ready to move up to a finance managers position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Knowledge of Not for Profit accounting in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner and oversee all financial transactions pertaining to the organizations COMPASS/SONYC programs.
Ensure the development and integrity of the systems of internal accounting controls and procedures.
Coordinate reimbursable payments from the City of New York with submissions of timely monthly expense reports
Ensure that contract billing and submission schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady.
Manage programmatic cash flow and forecasting within the COMPASS/SONYC department
Support Site Directors and Executive team with monthly expense reports to ensure proper spending in line with budget allocations
Team player and solution oriented
Qualifications:
Experience working with Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) protocols and procedures (required)
High School Diploma and (3) three years experience working in bookkeeping, financial management and or in a non profit fiscal department.
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously;
Proficient in Microsoft Office especially MS Excel.
Proficient in QuickBooks (non-profit edition) (required)
Great attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills
Reports to: Financial Manager, After School Supervisor, (2) Co-Executive Directors - Location: Brooklyn, NY
