Basic Duties :
The Certified Medical Medical Assistant provides basic medical care to inmate patients under the direction of medical professionals. They perform routine tasks and procedures such as measuring patients' vital signs, administering medications and injections, recording information in medical records-keeping systems, preparing and handling medical instruments and supplies, and collecting and preparing specimens of bodily fluids and tissues for laboratory testing.
Essential Job Duties :
Performs initial response screening following protocols by supervising medical professionals.
Obtain, evaluate and record patient history employing critical thinking skills.
Establish, organize and maintain patient medical records.
Actively participates in cost containment measures.
Administers prescribed medication to inmate patients as needed.
Prepares room, medical records, equipment and assists physician and/or physician extender. during examination and treatment.
Documents medical history and treatment of inmate patients.
Provides patient education and documents such.
Participates in monthly continuing education within the site.
Maintains awareness of safety regulations and procedures at all times .
Meets regularly with the HSA or DON to review services administered to inmate patients.
Provides medical update to incoming medical staff prior to shift change.
Provides appropriate communication to all staff, site management and inmates.
Maintains a positive working relationship with all staff, site management and inmates.
Recognizes and responds to medical emergencies within 4 minutes.
Participates in CQI.
May be required to work overtime as needed.
Other duties as required and/or assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma and/or equivalent
One to three months related experience
Must be certified in CPR and AED (and maintain certification)
As required by the state this employee works in, may be required to successfully complete a certification program prior to employment. Guidelines may be described under a specific state nurse practice act.
Experience and ability to operate variety of typical office equipment
Computer literate; able to enter, review and retrieve data from a variety of programs
Corrections healthcare experience preferred
Employment Requirements :
Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation by the client or company.
Must comply with all requirements of the company substance abuse policy.
Must obtain and maintain security clearance with the client as a requisite for initial and/or continued employment.
Must maintain all certifications, educational requirements, licensing, etc. for this position.
