Tax & General Ledger Accountant Job Opening in Winchester, Virginia - The Tax & General Ledger will utilize experience in GL & Tax accounting to assist with timely and accurate reporting and payment of taxes. These could include sales, business, prepaid sales and use tax. Additionally, this position is responsible for performing specialized accounting, administrative and internal control functions in maintaining financial records and reports; to serve as the point of contact in researching issues and resolving disputes with vendors, debtors and staff; and to perform related work as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Prepares journal entries; maintains and reconciles ledger accounts
Balances books or accounts and prepares profit/loss, income and balance sheet statements
Reviews and verifies the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records
Prepares and analyzes financial statements and monthly reports
Prepares balance sheet reconciliation and margin trend analysis
Assists with audits by providing supporting records and documentation
Conducts studies and develops solutions for improving accounting processes
Prepares and analyzes tax records and reports
Prepares local, state and federal tax returns
Assists in preparing statistical and financial reports
Review AR invoices for sales tax accuracy
Request resale/exemption certificates from customers, review certificates for accuracy
Review and assess AP invoices for use tax
Review and maintain supporting reports and resale/exemption certificates for sales tax returns
Prepare sales tax returns
Timely submission of tax payments
Contacting taxing authorities as needed regarding rate changes, notices, etc.
Assist in researching tax rules, returns and regulations
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education or Equivalent: Bachelor?s Degree in Accounting or 1-3 years of equivalent experience in the accounting / tax field.
