Development Director Job Opening in Chicago, Illinois - POSITION SUMMARY:
The Development Director serves as a key leadership team member at H.A.S. This position sets the organizations strategic fundraising agenda to achieve and exceed revenue goals through solicitation of individual and major gifts, special events, corporate and foundation support and government grants. The Development Director develops and implements annual and long-term strategic fundraising plans that will diversify H.A.S?s donor pipeline. In addition, the Development Director provides oversight of the agency?s Marketing and Communications efforts to promote awareness and raise H.A.S?s profile in the community at large.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and manages a comprehensive and robust development program including a major fundraising campaign with gifts and grants from corporations, foundations, individuals and government; annual and planned giving.
Develops and implements H.A.S?s annual and long-term fundraising plan which includes individual gifts, corporate, foundation, government and special event revenue for both operating costs and new or special project expenses. The plan(s) will also incorporate proposed goals and strategies through H.A.S?s Strategic Plan.
Provides support to the Board of Directors to ensure their engagement in the fundraising process.
Leads and participates in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of all individual and institutional donors.
Oversees the agency?s grant funding program (government, foundation, corporation and major donor prospects) and assists with writing and editing as needed.
Plans and coordinates cultivation and stewardship activities for current and potential donors with the goal of strengthening their relationship with H.A.S., increasing their involvement, and their charitable giving.
Develops a comprehensive Marketing and Communications strategy creating a cohesive image and message via printed materials, website, electronic communication, social media, etc.
Works with the Marketing and Communications Specialist to create communication vehicles that keep donors informed of the agency?s needs, development program activities and progress, and opportunities to give.
Aids agency professional staff in preparation of materials including brochure and other printed communications.
Develops and implements stewardship activities so that fundraising commitments can be expanded or secured for longer term.
Establishes Foundation and Corporate donor files including history of relationship, proposal submission dates, contact information, and donor profile data.
Supports Board development led by the Chief Executive Officer and working closely with Board Members, Volunteers, and Staff.
Prepares fundraising reports as needed.
Analyzes fundraising data and oversees the maintenance of accurate and timely records to measure progress and effectiveness
Represents H.A.S with external constituencies and the community as needed.
Drafts and submits press releases to the media as appropriate.
Participates as part of the Senior Management team in strategic and annual planning activities of the agency; attend regular management meetings.
Other related duties as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree required with a Masters degree preferred from an accredited college or university.
A minimum of five [5] years of experience with a proven track record in the areas of fundraising including but not limited to: grant writing, individual and major gift fundraising, special events, and campaign development.
Must have a minimum of three (3) year experience in a supervisory position of non-profit organization.
Knowledge of development and fundraising strategies and familiarity with Chicago philanthropic community preferred.
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
Experience in managing prospect databases.
Excellent computer skills necessary.
Possession of a valid Illinois drivers license and willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment.
