Medical Records Clerk Job Opening in Tucson, Arizona - SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for performing various clerical functions that include, but is not limited to filing, faxing, photocopying, scanning, sorting loose reports, pulling and delivery of charts, answering phones, purging files as needed, and performing the maintenance and organization of all Camp Lowell Surgery Center clinical records. The Medical Records Clerk assists with other front office functions as needed and reports to the Director of Financial Management or Records Lead.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for maintaining all medical records for Camp Lowell Surgery Center. Includes, but not limited to:
assisting with creation of new clinical charts
retrieval of existing clinical records for scheduled appointments
maintenance of computer index of filed and archived charts
filing of charts and loose reports
completion of case history information including chart verification checklist
auditing of filed charts for accuracy in content and sequence
Perform other data entry duties to include case history information and other information as needed.
Manage clinical data and records completion system to keep process and workflow consistent with professional standards and legal requirements.
Review medical records for timely completion and documentation.
Ensure that all medical records are reassembled and filed correctly in a timely manner.
Maintain all patient medical records in a complete, accurate, current, confidential, and secure manner.
Assist with procedure for release of clinical information according to state and federal statutes.
Assist with the storage, retrieval, archiving and destruction of medical records according to state statutes.
Distribute transcription reports, which include mailing or faxing, as appropriate.
Coordinate signatures and/or completion of any reports added to chart after date of service to include but not limited to: operative reports, pathology and other lab reports, query forms, other forms requiring signature.
Assist with providing copies of medical records for billing, continuity of care, or legal purposes according to the Center's guidelines and legal requirements. Maintains an accurate record regarding the status and disposition of each medical record request.
Prepare medical record documents and envelopes for mailing or faxing.
Communicate with supervisor the work status of filing records and loose reports.

QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate and two (2) years of related experience.
Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in managing patients' medical records to include familiarity with medical terminology.
Ability to work accurately and efficiently with numbers and forms.
Previous experience with alphabetical and numeric filing methods preferred.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Competent in oral and written communication skills.
Ability to organize, prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Ability to work independently and maintain assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
Two (2) years experience using a medical software system preferred. Previous experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.
Intermittent and prolonged physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, pulling and pushing of carts, equipment, etc. Must be able to bend body downward at the waist; be able to kneel.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Subject to varying situations, including periods of stress and demanding timelines.
Subject to varying work schedule during normal business hours.
Subject to answering high volume of calls and/or inquiries from various internal and external customers to include but not limited to nursing staff, physicians, patients and vendors.
The Medical Records Clerk is classified as a non-exempt employee and is eligible for overtime pay according to the provisions stated in the Surgery Center?s personnel policies.
