Payroll Specialist Responsibilities
Provides support to the payroll department and ensures the timely and accurate processing of payroll records by compiling, organizing, and entering data into the payroll system. Position includes entering and maintaining all payroll-related information, for a variety of employee types. This position will be responsible for all aspects of payroll processes, including issuing manual checks, handling garnishments and child support orders, etc.
Essential Duties
Enters payroll for active employees into payroll systems; works with Human Resources and Benefits Department to determine deductions and benefits.
Calculates changes to payroll, check requests, and reimbursement; ensures all necessary changes are made.
Gathers, analyzes, and summarizes financial information.
Responsible for preparing payroll reports as necessary.
Researches and resolves payroll problems and discrepancies.
Issues stop payment requests.
Runs payroll process for full-time and part-time employees.
May perform payroll accounting processes as assigned.
May organize/coordinate on-line payroll procedures.
Stay current with system updates and changes as well as changes with current wage and tax laws.
Ensure payroll integrity through audit reports, data analysis and collaboration with other team members.
Coordinate and administer Wage Garnishment order in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Typical office environment.
Infrequently lifting and carrying items up to 10 lbs.
Infrequently twisting or bending at the waist or reaching overhead.
Frequently listening to and talking with team members either in person or by telephone.
Frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer display, keyboard, and mouse.
Specific Requirements
Education, Experience and Certification
GED or High School Diploma required
Associates degree or Technical Training, preferred.
Data entry experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong Excel skills and other MS Office tools.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and problem resolution.
Exercises independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work according to applicable regulations, company policies and procedures.
Ability to utilize new tools and technologies in a rapidly changing environment.
Ability to multi-task.
A working knowledge of current industry trends, standards and practices.
