Senior Accountant Job Opening in Glendale, California - Front Porch Communities & Services is headquartered in Glendale, CA, has revenues approaching $200 million, and employs approximately 2,200 people. FPCS is a not-for-profit support system for a family of communities that serve individuals and families through retirement and affordable housing communities, skilled nursing centers, and related senior and human services. FPCS was formed in 1999 by bringing together Pacific Homes, California Lutheran Homes, and FACT, and owns and operates 12 retirement communities serving over 3,000 residents, primarily in California. The Finance organization includes approximately 16 people. This position reports to the Assistant Controller. The Senior Accountant will perform complex accounting activities and financial analysis in the finance department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES other duties may be assigned.
Hands on involvement and integral contributor to the full cycle accounting process including journal entries, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements within established schedules.
Analyze and reconcile other balance sheet accounts including accrued liabilities, employee PTO, retirement other benefit accounts.
Prepare monthly journal entries by maintaining records, reconciling accounts, and resolving any discrepancies.
Perform accounting functions and support to ensure adherence to GAAP.
Analyze and reconcile investments accounts.
Calculate monthly bad debt reserve.
Compile and analyze accounting information to prepare monthly financial variance analysis reports.
Assist with year-end financial audit.
Provide general support to the Assistant Controller and Controller.
Perform other ad-hoc tasks and duties as assigned by management.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance or 5+ years in related experience.
Health care and/or continuing care retirement community, or non-profit experience preferred.
Exhibit a professional demeanor and provide excellent client services to residents and communities.
Potential travel up to 10% to the various communities.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Highly organized, extremely detail oriented and able to multi-task in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
Self-directed and effective working independently, yet equally comfortable contributing in a team environment.
