Research Analyst Job Opening in Tacoma, Washington - Earth Economics is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Tacoma, Washington with a 20-year track record of innovation and success. Our mission is to quantify and value the benefits nature provides. Our work drives effective decisions and system change through a combination of education, natural capital analysis, and policy recommendations. We are currently seeking a Research Analyst (RA) to join our team. The RA conducts research, analysis, builds models, applies software tools and produces written material in support of projects and business development opportunities. The objective of this work is to produce economic values and functions that reflect the benefits that nature provides to communities and the economy. In this role, you will support Earth Economics? Program and Project Directors to deliver innovative, high-quality analysis that will help leaders around the world understand, protect, and expand investment in natural capital.
Responsibilities and Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Develop and apply skills using analysis applications and models including Earth Economics? Ecosystem Valuation Toolkit (EVT) and IMPLAN, an economic impact analysis tool
Review published valuation literature and transcribe key economic data
Conduct literature reviews on subjects such as green infrastructure, environmental health, land management practices, water management, and environmental science
Communicate with Project/Program Directors and client teams to identify and complete research tasks
Develop (or apply pre-existing) valuation methodologies for converting environmental data into economic measures
Develop and apply mathematical skills (algebra, statistics, calculus) for manipulating and analyzing financial, biophysical, social, and economic data
Document research findings and analysis results both for technical and lay audiences
Prepare and present findings to project team, staff, and clients
Manage tasks, priorities, and deliverables in a timely, self-directed manner
Connect with subject-matter experts to gather data and validate assumptions
Lead conversations with client team and subject matter experts
Qualifications
Curious, flexible, and pragmatic with excellent attention to detail
Experience successfully working within matrixed teams
Experience in ecological economics and/or benefit-cost analysis
Demonstrated written communication quality including both technical documentation of methods and simple approach summaries
Strong verbal communication, both 1:1 and within teams
Aptitude for conducting web- and journal-based research and integrating and summarizing information in a concise and timely manner
Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Advanced Excel skills preferred.
Degree in economics, applied science, or policy relevant to listed responsibilities
Other Details
This position may require up to 10% travel depending on project need
