Overview:
Continental LTC, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Continental Insurance Group, Ltd, the recently formed insurance unit of HC2 Holdings, Inc. The Continental Insurance family of companies has provided Long Term Care Insurance to individuals and groups for over 30 years and currently provides Long Term Care coverage to approximately 55,000 lives. Continental LTC, Inc. is primarily focused on managing the Long-Term Care Insurance portfolio of its insurance company subsidiary and pursuing opportunities to expand its Long-Term Care Insurance portfolio through acquisitions and strategic partnerships.
We are seeking an Accounting Specialist that will be responsible for all financial reporting, both Statutory and GAAP. This position will be based out of our Austin, Texas office.
Essential Responsibilities and Functions of the Job:
Compiles, consolidates and analyzes accounting and finance information for the production of statements, schedules, filings and reports of a complex nature.
Responsible for the complex activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts and for the development of financial statements and reports.
Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments and obligations incurred to predict future revenues, expenses and recommend improvements to current processes.
Conducts special studies and develops and implements accounting methods and procedures.
Maintain relationship between the accounting group and other departments, locations, divisions and external customers.
Provides technical advice to other positions and other functional areas.
May lead the work of others (mentors, prioritizes, delegates and reviews assignments).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
Knowledge and Experience Required:
5 to 8 years of related experience
2 to 3 years in insurance accounting or other specialty area
Desired
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Insurance related certifications (Program in General Insurance (INS)
Other Requirements:
Ability to handle multiple tasks within time constraints.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to quickly adapt to changes either within the department or during the daily work assignments.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment, and display a positive attitude in an effort to meet department goals.
Travel as needed to support financial reporting and M&A activities.
Pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
