Staff Accountant Job Opening in Abingdon, Virginia - Staff Accountant
K-VA-T Food Stores is the parent company of Food City, a highly successful regional grocery retail operation, headquartered in the beautiful and historic town of Abingdon, VA. Food City is currently looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to join our team.
This position will be a key Asset in the continued operations & growth of the company. It will require involvement with gross profits and variance analysis, monthly financial statements, various tax returns, along with other special projects. The position will require interaction with the corporate accounting group and support to senior management as well as other business groups within the company.
Essential Job Functions :
Calculate and audit gross profit percentages by analyzing all accounts and reports related to sales, purchases, and inventory.
Audit monthly financial statements and analyze expenses.
Maintain asset and liability work papers and balance general ledger accounts.
Monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variances.
Communicate with Retail Operations and Distribution Center management teams regarding monthly financial operating results.
Prepare and post monthly journal entries ensuring accruals (estimates) are accurate.
Assist the entire Reports & Analysis team by analyzing Retail income statements for one district monthly.
Assist with the monthly preparation, compilation, and distribution of physical and electronic financial reporting package.
Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Protect operations by keeping financial information confidential.
Assist with other projects as necessary.
Basic Qualifications:
High school graduate, supplemented by a four-year college degree
3-5 years accounting experience preferred.
Advanced knowledge of debit and credit bookkeeping principles.
Demonstrated experience using analytical skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
Ability to type with speed and accuracy.
Ability to assign work, recognize work related needs and make recommendations to pursue their successful conclusion.
Ability to maintain strictest confidentiality.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions, perform routine and repetitive tasks and have constant contact/interaction with various levels of individuals on a daily basis
Ability to attend on-site work during normal business hours, in the typical work week, as well as extra time as needed to fulfill job duties
