Investment Accounting Manager Job Opening in San Diego, California - The Investment Accounting Manager works within the Controllers group and is responsible for accounting and reporting for our consumer finance receivable business. This includes working with the operations and risk group to track loan performance and produce financial statements for the consolidated group of companies. This position will also support our capital markets team by providing the data used to obtain financing to expand the portfolio as the business expands nationwide.
Responsibilities
Leads the Finance Receivable accounting function and partners with other areas within Accounting to accurately report our financial results for our consumer loan portfolio business. This includes tracking daily cash entries, maintaining the credit loss allowance account, and assisting with capital markets borrowing needs. This position will also be responsible for producing financial statements and leading the year-end audit for the business unit.
Manage the month-end close process including maintaining accurate and timely account reconciliations.
Research complex technical accounting issues dealing with accounting for financial instruments and implement operational solutions.
Prepare variance analysis highlighting earnings drivers for external and managerial reporting.
Consolidate and analyze financial results and account values.
Manage or participate in Corporate wide ad hoc projects and requests; represent the Accounting function for new products and business lines.
Support continuous improvement and developmental efforts to streamline accounting processes and improve the overall internal control environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA and/or MBA preferred)
Mix of public accounting and financial services industry experience preferred
Minimum five years of financial reporting and/or planning & analysis required
Demonstrated leadership experience managing people and processes.
Strong financial acumen and analytical reasoning skills; good knowledge of accounting systems and the structure and processes that make them work.
Excellent technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP; especially in the area of allowance for loan losses, asset-backed securitization, and derivatives.
Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
Proficient in Microsoft applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
