The Assistant Director of Nursing Services (ADON) will assist the Director of Nursing Services (DON) in directing all activities related to nursing and clinical function, is responsible for planning, staffing, organizing, delegating and controlling the services in an efficient and cost effective manner. The ADON also assists the DON in plans the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to the patients of BHC-C on a 24-hour, 7 day per week basis.
Job Responsibilities
ADON compliments the DON in planning, developing, and supervising the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to BHC-C patients. This position assists with the development and implementation of nursing services, objectives, individual patient care plans, policies and procedures in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
The incumbent shares, with the DON, the responsibility for selecting Nursing Department staff, competing employee appraisals and resolving problems involving employee disciplinary action.
in short/long term goal development (policies, procedures, strategic planning, QA/PI).
Participates in evaluation of patient products, techniques, and equipment.
Provides validated and accurate data for Joint Annual Report in a timely manner
The ADON shares responsibility with DON for backing up RN/LPN staff on a 24 hour per day 7 day per week basis.
The ADON creates and maintains a staff schedule for both licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to BHC-C patients.
The ADON may confer with patients? physicians or an occasional basis to clarify medical orders and direct care.
In the absence of the DON, the ADON performs the duties of the Director.
ADON oversees the clinical operations (i.e., monitoring resident conditions, psycho pharmacological drugs, restraint use, foley catheters, pressure ulcers, etc.) of the Nursing Department.
Assists the DON in the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of care and maintains and promotes patients rights.
Provides as needed/required for the DON concerning the operations of Nursing Services.
Assists the DON in the development, implantation and evaluation of facility policies, procedures and guidelines on an annual and on-going basis (i.e., nursing, pharmacy, lab, physicians, medical records, etc.)
Works in conjunction with the DON to create treatment plans and conduct treatment team meetings for both patients and families with patient physician.
In the absence of the DON, conducts staff meetings.
Ensures clinical/nursing staff is oriented and trained to duties, regulations, rules, laws, accreditation, policies and procedures (population served, psychiatric nursing, CPR, CPI, universal precaution, restraints and seclusion, medications, and prevention of violence).
Develops, implements, reviews assessments, treatment plans, discharge plans that are patient specific and contains substantiated diagnosis, short/long term goals and implements specific treatment modalities.
Assists the DON in ensuring that residents are free from abuse, mistreatment and neglect.
Assist the DON in ensuring staff awareness and compliance with Federal and State regulations relative to patient rights issues.
Assist in nursing administrative calls.
Promotes and adheres to cultural competency regarding patients, staff, visitors, vendors, physicians, referral sources, coworkers, and management.
Serves as a member of all hospital committees (QA/PI, Infection Control, Safety, Grievance, and Utilization Review).
Develop a system for identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections and communicable diseases of patients and personnel.
Functions in a friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional manner with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, visitors, coworkers, and management.
Promotes, adheres, and monitors for a drug and violence free work place.
Qualifications
Education ? Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing preferred with psychiatric nursing experience. Current license to practice as an RN in the state of Tennessee (Official must be available for verification)
Experience ? 3 to 5 years of responsible nursing experience, preferably in a mental health or geriatric healthcare setting.
Certification ? Must be licensed as an RN in the state of Tennessee. CPR and CPI certification required (or training completed prior to direct patient care) with yearly refreshers. CMS Restraint and Seclusion training (or training completed prior to direct patient care).
